Hitachi 50V710 The picture is dim, then the bulb went out. I replaced the bulb. all works but the picture is still dim. You can barely see the screen durring the day. And can only use it in a dark room...

I've seen this in two scenarios.

First: The housing of the bulb is dirty (the lens the bulb lights onto) and the internal screen is dirty also.

The second: The bulb is wired reversely of the proper way to wire it. This will light the bulb, but will not light as bright as when it is wired correctly!

Lamp Out

There is typically an access door on the back of the TV which is used to replace the lamp. Consult your user manual for more details.

Once the set detects that the bulb has been replaced (you may have to tell it via a menu option, but that is a bit rare), it will then take over for calibration and such (if it has that ability).

Be darn careful that you do not handle the bulb with your bare hands. Would be fantastic idea if you were to handle the bulb with linen gloves. It probably is not halogen, but you also don't want to be leaving a print on the mirror or similar.

Screen went almost completely blank. could barely see the picture.

THERE IS NOT MODEL BRAND AND TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION.

If this tv is and LCD the black screen is now the answer of a problem in the back light. the problem can be resolved. the worst case scenario is to replace the lamps. is an average repair an estimate could be a good idea.

42 inch Plasma TV

who ever told you it was a bulb doesn't know anything about plasma tv's
they don't work like that!
it is a digital video processing board that put out the picture
then there is whats called a back light which highlights the screen and has nothing to do with a bulb
you will need to call a tech to come out to determine the exact problem by doing some test
if you have a warranty then use it , otherwise it going to cost to get it fixed!
sorry about your tv
