Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hi, I have 2 Toshiba compressors (PH170X & PH160X), New, for air conditioners. Can they be used to pump air? Does this cause any problems? Do they need to be filled with oil, and if so how much? They have 3 electrical connections on top marked S / R & C. I believe R is for Red - Active, what do the other letters stand for? I would appreciate any assistance. Regads Helmut.

No they will not pump air. the oil in the compressor circulates in the freon, the freon also cools the compressor. these run on 230 volts c-common r-run, and s- start from a capacitor. Sell them to a dealer

What would be the top 2 reasons 1 of the outside 20 amp fuses would blow?

There are only two possible things that it could be. The compressor or the fan motor. The compressor is self contained and cannot be serviced. You just replace the whole thing. The fan motor can be replaced.

How to determine evaporator icing problem of air conditioning units

Due to :

1.. Evaparator coil dust blocked. 2. Air filter blocked. 3. Less rpm of fan motor. 4. Short of gas. 5.Filter drier chocked 6. Compressor less pumping.
To rectify:
1 & 2.Clean air filter and evaporator. 3. Replace fan capacitor. 4.Check for gas leak and recharge. 5. Replace new filter drier, vacumize and gas charge.

White snow.. I had this issue when 2 inside unit electrical lines were hooked up backwards at the compressor. The compressor would pump too often and overcool the inside unit, because it was using the wrong temperature sensor. But you could have a different issue. I'd have them recheck your freon levels, that can cause it to cool too much - should be 120-135psi when it is running, after 5-10 minutes or so. They adjust this for the outside temperature though.

Hi,
The problem here is the compressor.... it has failed and will not start. You can try to replace the capacitor and see if it will go but most likely the compressor is toast. I t will cost more to replace it then to buy a new unit.

During low voltage period window AC compressor shudders and kicks off, but fan runs, when voltage returns normal compressor runs.

low voltage issues causes higher amp draw and equipment to run a lot harder. whats causing the low voltage problem to the equipment? high amp draw of the compressor could be causing it to overheat and trip until the compressor physically cools down.
