Question about AT&T 1855 Phone

2 Answers

Audio Feedthrough we have an AT&T 1855 answering machine, and sometimes when someone in the house picks up any phone other than the answering machine (right before the answering machine starts to let the caller leave a message), the 1855 answering machine will not be able to detect that someone had picked up a phone to talk with the caller, and will feed the entire conversation through the loudspeaker of the answering machine until either the call ends or until someone lifts the receiver of the answering machine (it doesn't matter if it is placed back on the receiver). what's going on here? is the answering machine defective? is it poorly made? I always thought that AT&T was a good company, so i trusted that their products would work as advertised. any help? Thanks in advance!

i figured it out. The machine is ****. It's built badly. I replaced it with a wireless phone system and an SBC-116 phone for the talking caller ID.

I don't think i'm going to try using FixYa again. For certain products, no one uses the site that knows how to fix those issues, aside people that post new problems. The site is built well, it just needs more advertisement for people who like to fix things.

    Sorry, FixYa users.

On the upside, I got a problem with my GPS fixed, which went well. Thanks for that.

Wow, no one has posted a response for this poor sap. I don't know what to do, but someone should at least post some insight!
Personally, I think it may be a power issue, as possibly the current going to the phone is not stable, so it is interfering with the machine's abilities to listen for someone else picking up on the other end.

How do I change the number or rings on my vtech cs6619-2

The CS6619-2 isn't an answering machine. It will continue to ring until someone or something picks up, or the caller hangs up.

To change the number of rings before your answering machine picks up, please consult the documentation for your answering machine.

When i install canon all in one , i just can fax to someone , but i can't receive from someone , thanks lot

If you have an answering machine on the same phone line you need to use the answering machine menu to set the phone to answer at 4 rings and the fax to answer at 6 rings.Another thing that will work is a phone line just for the fax.Sometimes a fax modem card inside your tower or a usb fax modem is needed.I think in your case the machine is picking up phone ring first instead of the fax signal which is different.

I have a Guardian home security system and comcast digital voice. After switching to digital voice, sometimes if i call my house, I hear sounds like a fax machine, sometimes it sounds like someone has...

Your system has been programed by your alarm company for remote programing by their techical department. They can access your system to change codes, reset your system's time/date and do remote diagnostics. Most security system manufacturers allow this remote access by having the security system answer the telephone after so many rings, the security system then picks up and waits for a frequency tone from the security dealer's computer. Once this occurs the dealer can access your system. Your dealer may have to change the program settings if this is causing interference. A second possibility is do you have remote access to your system? Some systems have the ability for the home owner to remotely access their system from any outside telephone. This allows the customer to arm/disarm their system while away from home. This could be causing your problem.

Incoming faxes not received, all else works.

Hi there,

It is your phone answering machine that must pick up in three rings or less.

Therefore 4 is too much. I would not limit number for fax machine itself.

On receipt of fax sometimes seems like it will not work when answering machine picks up in the middle. However, leave it and it will work. Sometimes sender will hear your answering machine and cancel as well. So try to ensure they don't give up at other end as well.

Good Luck!

How to receive faxes automatically

First this is a good machine, I use the same one and have my fax setup for the same thing. If you have a (TAD) Telephone Answering Device first you have to set up your phone to pick up before the fax, do this by setting the phone to pick up on three rings and the fax to pick up on four. Go to Menu/Fax/Setup Receive/Ring Delay. While there make sure Easy Receive is on. The machine itself will distinguish between regular calls and facsimiles and will display this info at the time of the call on its LCD screen, make sure you are using the line connection and not the phone connection. Hope this helped.

We took the phone off the wall...plugged it into a different outlet.  It worked.  Hung it back on the wall, replugged it in to the original outlet, and it still works.  Go figure.

No message recorded. Static when in use.

It sounds like you have damage to an internal component of your phone.

HERE is a link to the manual, if needed.
