2006 pt crusier won't shift out of low

You could try the linkage cable from the shifter(under the hood). It could be alot of things. Is it auto or manual trans? And what do you mean by wont shift? Is the the shifter moving from P,R,N,D, ect... or the transmission is not shifting into a higher gear?

Transmission wont engage

Have a look under your car at the shift linkages to the gear box and ensure that they are still connected. If they are and they move when the shift is moved in the car, then you probably need a specialist auto transmission mechanic.

Transmission will not shift into high gear

sounds like the auto oil coolong pipes popped a leak in the radiator

do the auto service and fit the parts
if oil and coolant haven't mixed in the auto itself
over drive clutch set may need a new kit fitted

drive it a bit and see what happens

1990 crown victoria had valve cover gaskets remove & replaced, and know my won't reverse good, & keeps cutting off

this is a combination of issues from whomever did the work..first, in order to remove the valve covers, all the hardware on top had to be removed, to include some vacuum equipment and hoses, and the shifter link arm on the drivers side of the firewall. if these hoses arent reconnected properly, the running of the car is effected, and if the shift link arm wasnt adjusted when reinstalled, it wont shift right at all.. if the folks who worked on it wont repair it for free(and you are allowed to watch them do it) then take your bill and the defunct car to another dealer garage who will make it right and charge the bill to the former garage..nothing gets my goat worse than someone who doesnt have a clue what they are doing to my car, thats why all my work is done by me, unless I cant do it myself..(which hasnt happened yet) if you know what you are doing, fixing the vacuum system hoses and such(using a diagram from the auto parts store,) will assist the running of the engine, the shifter adjust is eithewr up top on the steering column under the hood, or under the bottom at the transmission itself...put the car in park firmly and see where the shift arm(once loosened ) sets..adjust it to fit as its supposed to be and it should shift right with all gears present..good luck..

Column shifter does not make the gears change, indicator moves from P to D and nothing happens

Sounds like your cable has broken or come off on the side of the transmission this is your problem it snaps off and on under the vehicle. and if the linkage is intact and moves it is the electronic module on the side of the transmission behind the shift cable.Remember to rate my solution and give testimonial this is how i earn my achievements here on FixYa Thanks in advance if you need further help just ask

1999 ford gear handles moves but won't select gear and the car is still in park

Two things happen. On collum shift cars and trucks the bolts work loose out of the shift lever to the cable under the dash where the shift cable connects to the steering collum. the cable connects to a lever that is connected the the shift tube ( part of the steering collum ) bolt heads are 30 torx. the other thing that happens is the cable comes off the trans mission lever and it just snaps on. The bushing waers out and the cable just comes off the pin on the lever coming out of the transmission. Front wheel drive cars it's on the top and rear wheel and trucks it's on the side ( happens less on these and then the cable can break it'self, and the shift cable has to be replaced sometimes if the bushing in the end fails at the transmission end.

Transmision does not always go into reverse, or drive. Only first and second are consistant

With an assistant helping you, you can check to see what's going on. With your assistant in the drivers seat. the key on but the engine not running and your assastant ( that you trust) holding the brake on get under the truck to where you can see the linkage on the side of the transmission. It's on the drivers side and it's a cable connected to a lever thats' on a shaft that goes thought the neutral safty switch into the side of the transmission. Have your assistant move the gear shift though the different positions and have themm tell you where they moved the shifter to. Put your fingers on the lever so you can not only see the lever move but feel it go into tne next detent inside the transmission. It the lever moves just as the person moving it says their doing then the cable and shifter are Okay. if not the cable or it's mountings need to be looked at to see where they came off or loose. There's a lever on the steering collum that can be loose on the coullum end too. You can see it by removing the under splash under the steering collum and looking up from the floor. Let's say this all looks and acts good the next thing that happens ids the shaft the lever that goes into the side of the transmission has another lever on the inside of the transmission that comes loose and thew pan has to be removed to see it. while you were holding the lever and as it moved to the next place on the shifter you did'nt feel it click on the inside of the trans then this is likly to have happened. If this clicks good as shifted and the lever follows the shifter good then the fluild level is Okay then the transmission is damaged and will need to be rebuilt to fix the problem.

1984 Jeep CJ7, Gear shifting / Linkage problem

likely the shift rails are worn inside the trans. In changing shift, you have removed the wear on the end of the stick, but not the corresponding wear where the stick fits into. It will need to be taken apart to repair this. (would not hurt to have synchros replaced at the same time.) OR, replace transmission if you have an inexpensive one available.

Car wont move when transmission is in drive

With the car NOT running and the wheels BLOCKED on both sides of the wheel have someone look for a rod that connects to the transmission. If you move the shifter as someone looks it may be more obvious. See if that rod is still connected to the transmission. If it is all electronic you may have more serious problems and a transmission repairman will need to me involved.
