Question about Kenmore 55612 / 55614 / 5561 / 655619 Side by Side Refrigerator

Fridge not cold - freezer fine

We have a kenmoore elite side by side that will not keep the fridge cold. Two questions... 1 - is there supposed to be any ice at all on the coils in the back of the freezer and 2- could it simply be an air baffle problem?

Ice buildup will most likely block the air flow.
if so the air will not be able to enter fridge section. Check air vent in fridge side if you can hear the fan and get no air flow then its blocked - common defrost thermostat failure.

to temporarily clear the problem just use a hair dryer on the ice build up area

What is the temperature suppose to be inside fridge?

fridge is supposed to be around 36-38 degrees freezer 0 to 10 depending on if your fridge area is not cold enough the freezer is the only side that actually gets cold and there is a fan located above the evaporator that pushes to cold air through a small door that opens and closes depending on how cold your unit is. If the unit gets to cold the door shuts not allowing any cold air to come into the fridgerator side. If you have any further questions message me back. Fridge side is loosing cold.\the freezer side is working fine.

Check for proper operation of the damper door. This allows cool air from the freezer to cool the fridge.

Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.
