If the ignition isnt turning on at start up check the dead stops.. there are several. mone under the seat one for the grass hopper and there may be on for the blade position and brake and gear selectioon. the one under the seat has a plate that actuats it this can sometimes move out of place. the one for the hopper can also stop the motor if the box aint on straight.. the height lever has one too.. these are probable causes.. if the motor turns check the gear that turns the motor this is on the shaft for the starter motor. it can sometimes stick so the rotor doesnt turn.. Good Luck .. A

We have a craftsman riding mower with a B&S the mower model # is 917.270670. It will turn over and start but as soon as it starts it just dumps fuel back into the carb from a rubber hose coming up from...

Check the oil, I believe that you will find that there is more than oil in there. There is probably gas in there too. Do not run the engine like this. First the carburetor needs rebuilt, the float and needle are stuck and can not stop fuel flow into the bowl of the carburetor, then the fuel works its way through the carb and into the engine crankcase. After rebuilding the carburetor, then you need to change the oil. Watch out when draining, the gas acts as a thinner and it will gush out at you, so be ready and careful. After putting new oil in, turn the motor over a few times with spark plug removed to get oil in places that the gas washed it out of. Put some fuel in the tank, making sure that you know what level it is at, and check a couple minutes later to see if it held that level. Put plug back in while waiting. If no fuel level drop in tank then you should be good to start.

I hope this helps.

I have a Craftsman LT3000 (purchased in 2006) with a 20hp Briggs Intek Plus engine. I changed the oil out a few months back, and used the mower. Due to the lack of rain, the grass hasn't been growing,...

The float on your carb. has gotten stuck. The mower sat for a long time with fuel in it and the fuel went bad and now the carb needs cleaning. With the float stuck the gas poured through it and into the engine crankcase. Do not run your mower yet. Change the oil (be careful when draining as the oil/fuel mix will flow out of the drain like water) and with spark plug out turn motor by hand several times work the fuel out of where the oil should be. Reinstall the plug. Clean the carb, making sure that the float and needle do not stick. The connector on the bottom of the carb that you unhooked, that is a solinoid valve and you need to make sure that it is not stuck also. Now you may put gas in tank if empty, let sit for a minute to see if level in fuel tank drops. If so you did not clean the carb well enough. Double check by checking oil for fuel. Try to start. You may only want to let it run for a few seconds and check oil for gas. Determine if you want to change oil again. If you are really lucky you did not due permanent damage to your engine when you ran it before. Only time will tell. Hopefully you are familiar with how the motor sounded before this incident, because you need to listen to it while it is in use for a while to see if sounds different to indicate if you do have damage. Good Luck!

If really helpful, please rate.

Mower was running fine until I went on a incline .It stopped and would not start again. It has gas.

Check your oil level and condition. Most new motors have oil sensors on them that turn the motor off if the oil level is too low or in bad condition (old). If the oil level is low and you go on an incline the oil that is in the motor will flow away from the sensor and it will 'think' there isn't any oil in the crankcase and cut the motor off. The sensors are usually on the back side of the motor so going straight down hill will cause the oil to run away from the sensor, if it's really low sideways tilting can cause the same effect. If this is the cause the motor should start fine when level.

Lawn tractor lost power while in use engine slowed down

Check for spark, if spark is present, then remove air cleaner and pour some gas down carb. not to much, then keep away while starting. If motor starts and runs then shuts off you have a stuck needle and seat or fuel pump problem. Also check oil level.

I would say it is probably trying to burn off the excess oil that has gotten into the combustion chamber, valves, exhaust, etc. Maybe let it run for a bit at idle and see if it clears itself up.

Craftsman rider dlt 3000 throwinng gas out muffler won't start can anyone help.

Turn off fuel and do not try to start because it can shear flywheel key or catch fire.It sounds as if the float needle is not seating {closing}properly and must be cleaned or needle/seat replaced.Check to see if fuel has raised oil level on dipstick,if so you must change oil as well as the oil filter.
