Question about Pioneer SD-582HD5 58" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Help When main power is turned on, it directly goes to standby and there is no picture nor sound? We were told it was something to do with the projector, but is uncertain as to what direct part that may be. If anyone has had a similar problem or may no in the direction we should go I would appreciate it. thanks

A common failure with these symptoms in the SD582HD5 is the SMPS module (switch mode power supply). The supply can be removed and what you'll find are ring cracks, together with some possible component failures are causing you the symptoms you're describing.
Reflow solder on all the pin connections and heat sinked components. Test fuses F201 (6.3a) & F202 (5a) for open and replace if necessary. This should restore normal power-up but you may still have a problem with convergence. When the SMPS fails in these units they usually go in a surge. The greatest weakness in these sets is the convergence circuit. And it is possible that the SMPS could cause failure of the convergence amps. If this happens you'll have to replace he amps also. This unit takes two STK392-110's but I recommend you replace them with STK392-150's for greater reliability. However, test the convergence after the SMPS repair and see if it's even necessary.

The fuse alone could not be the problem.. Fuses are symptoms never the cause. More likely you have some ring crack issues on the board and that adds undue electrical and heat stress on that circuit. Eventually, whatever component is involved, will probably fail... You're better off getting the set repaired now before causing some serious damage. Ring cracked components like that can usually be done on an in-home service call... Just my opinion.

Lcd tv light flashing but no picture or sound

If you removed power by turning off power itself to the set instead of turning it off by turning the set itself off---that is not a good thing to do.

When power is restored a surge can and likely hit the power supply in your set---time for a tech or shop to open it---I suspect they will find the standby or main power supply is damaged or now bad.

It sounds like power supply or could be main board as remote has direct power whenever set is plugged in--standby supply powers that so if the remote has issue at same time the standby which is usually on main power board may have a odd issue.

Have you looked for puffy caps on power board?

TV picture won`t show neither sound

I presume not in warranty of any kind. Here is what I call a stock answer for sets that will not power up--it has helped a lot of people--one of the reasons I help here for free and have for the last 4 weeks been the top rated expert on the site.

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:

ISSUES:

1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.
2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.
3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.
4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.

Answers to issues:

1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.

2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.

Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.

What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.

3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.

4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.

Look inside the set at the power board(power cord goes right to it) for puffed up caps that look like these--a surge or even normal use can cause this problem.

Oh, if you need more help/advice press the "make a comment button on the page you see this answer on(tiny) and let me know what you found or even if need more help.

Nec pxt-42sx1b won't turn on. We press the on button on the remote and the stand by light turns from red to blue but then goes back to standby.

Unplug the TV for maybe 10 minutes, then turn it on. Sometimes these units simply need to recycle. If that doesn't work, you've likely got serious problems.
