Question about LG WM-1832C Front Load Washer

1 Answer

We're attempting to label circuit breakers in our home. One is currently labeled "WM" and it's not the washing machine. What might it be?

It could have been the washer at one time but the breakers got moved around over time. The washer should be on its own 20amp circuit. What size is the breaker? 20amp? 15amp? It is on the tip of the switch of the breaker. If it's a 20amp it should be for the kitchen or dining room outlets. It could also be for an air conditioner in the window. If it's a 15amp then it could be for lighting or other outlets other than the kitchen, dining room or ac outlet for window ac. That's just the basics. How old is the house? I've seen some really mixed up wiring in older houses. You could also buy a "Sperry" circiut breaker finder for about $50. It has a outlet plug that connects to an outlet and another handheld scanner that you scan the breakers with to find the correct breaker so that you can label it.

Why does the circuit breaker trip after a few moments of operation?

There is often a breaker in the machine in addition to the electrical panel, so depends on which one. The machine breaker will trip if overloaded or very unbalanced. The panel breaker will trip if there is an electrical fault or if the load on the circuit is too high, including some equipment that draws more current when just starting. Best to consult an electrician if you are not knowledgeable about home electrical.

No lights upstaires circuit breaker keeps tripping

Jan 2013
1) Move wire to another same-size circuit breaker to eliminate bad circuit breaker as suspect.
Do NOT increase size of breaker or it will cause fire.

2) Put hand on each appliance and outlet to see which ones are warm. Outlet should never be warm or hot. Replace outlet. Inspect wires for loose and burned connections.

3) If the breaker is good, then add up total watts being used by checking watt rating on each device. 100 watt light bulb is 100 watts. Big screen TV has a label that shows 300 to 500 watts. Computer has label. Space heater has label showing 1500 watts. Iron has a watt rating label. Take total watts and divide by 110Volts and this will give amp load. Total watts used = 2000 and then divide 2000 by 110 volts = 18.8 amps
Compare amp load with circuit breaker.
20 amp circuit breaker has 80% safe maximum, or 16 amps.
If amp load is 18.8 amps, then 20 amp breaker is starting to get hot, and weak breaker will start tripping.
If amp load is 18.8 amps, and breaker is 15 amps, then you are overloaded and breaker is feeling the heat, and tripping because of heat.
Solution is to reduce amp load.

4) If you have short circuit, that can also trip breaker.
Unplug everything and then plug things back in slowly to see which plug or appliance is causing the problem.

Chaf vs braf breakers

Hi Will,

I am an electrician and can help you with this problem.

The panel should have a label that provides the catalog number of the panel. Many labels also detail all the breaker types that the panel has been tested with by UL, FM or other recognized testing laboratory. It is a violation of the electrical code to install any breaker into a panel that it was not designed to accept - even it it fits or can be "made" to fit. This means if it is not listed as an acceptable breaker, it must not be introduced to the panel.

The BR20 AF and CH20 AF are both "Combination Arc Fault Circuit Breakers". This means either device is capable of interrupting current flow when either: (1) an over-current condition exists, or (2) when an arc fault is detected regardless of load.

The fronts look very different:

The BR20 AF circuit breaker above.

The CH20 AF circuit breaker above.

These breakers are NOT interchangeable. The CH series has fully exposed clips to engage the relatively flat (or flush) powered buss bar of the panel, while the BR series has a slot in the body that accepts a thin (blade-like), raised powered buss tab of a completely different style panel.

You should replace the breaker only with a like type, arc fault breaker. A similar looking, ground fault breaker is NOT a replacement for this breaker.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Front loading washing machine. Made by Jinan Hitone Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd, WM-3011 is the model, but I think it would have other names like Onyx. Been working well up till now (3years+). Today,...

it could be the motor controller. this part is resposable to drive the motor and other components like the electric pump. there is a chance that the combination of motor-controller be bad. try the controller first. is the most common to go out.

Can I use bleach with the laundry detergent for a load of whites?

Thanks for using FixYa. You need to preload all your detergents/liquids in a tray and let your washer do the work. No more “figuring out when to add softener, bleach or detergent”. The electronic controls on the LG WM-2277HW are clearly labeled and easy to use. This washing machine comes with standard dispensers for fabric softener and bleach and there is also a detergent dispenser.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Candy Eclipse washing machine blows the circuit breaker

It's possible that the current rating of the MCB is too low to run your washing machine PLUS all the devices plugged into the other sockets on the same circuit. If possible, try plugging in the washing machine on a circuit with fewer or no other appliances plugged in. MCB's are much faster tripping than circuit breakers and are rated to trip at the current rating on them. Circuit breakers, may carry a current slightly over the rated current which may be why it never happened before. The permanent solutions (if the overloaded circuit is the problem) would be to install a circuit solely for the washer and dryer or install a MCB with a higher current rating. The latter solution is not practical, however, since an overload on lower power devices may never reach the current rating of the MCB creating a hazardous shock potential.

Washer trips circuit breaker

Is washer relatively new? Check circuit breaker for proper size (20 AMPS). Washer must also be on its own circuit. It appears that when the motor starts up it is causing a spike in current (as with any motor), so the breaker is either undersized (Note that if breaker is undersized and you up it to the next size you would also need to replace the wire with the next size up which would be 12/2 with ground), or if you have had your washer a while which I believe is your case the circuit breaker is weakening and is tripping on the current spike. Try swapping out your circuit breaker with a new one and try running the washer again.
