Question about Canon PIXMA MP240 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Canon mp240 print quality, new cartridge, aligning doesn't help.

I have a Canon pixma mp240 all in one printer. My print head settings are off, and running the print head alignment program doesn't help. When printing on regular quality, the entire body of print shifts left to right every couple of inches down the page by the width of a typed |, possibly twice that. This makes reading every few lines tedious. When printing on high quality, everything prints double, as if you were looking at the page slightly out of focus. When I continue to run the print head alignment program, it seems to get worse. Is there a way to reset this machine to factory settings, or is there a part that needs to be cleaned, or is this a bigger problem?

SOURCE: Printer won't align.

Look for a reset button or hoe to reset in the manual This is usually done by pressing a combination of buttons on the printer side with the power off- and whilst holding down powering up. If the manual does not tell you- it will be trial and error. An E-mail to Tech Support at Lexmark may come up with an answer. or take a look here or here

Did you set the No. after the alignment print? The prob described is definitly a alignment prob. In case you cant do good by setting the right no. after alignment print the printhead has to be corrected by service personel only.

SOURCE: Alignment of printhead on Canon Pixma iP4600

This is simply a case of the ink tanks not being pressed in hard enough. They do click in, as the manual instructs but, unless they are fully pressed in top and bottom, this problem occurs. It's a shame that the Canon manuals and even the support centre do not mention this simple solution.

SOURCE: aligning print head doesn't fix the printing

You only need to clean the encoder strip. The plastic strip behind the carriage assembly. Wipe it gently with a damp Q-tip and the double lines will go away.

Prints with a double vision quality

Use the print alignment feature and follow the directions precisely. If the print heads won't align properly to get a clear image in the self-tests... get a new printer. It isn't worth repairing. If your cartridges are fairly full, buy another Canon that uses the same cartridges and install them on the new machine... keeping the unopened ones for spares. This will help defray the cost a little.

My printer prints blank pages when I want to print files from my computer, but works fine without a computer

If you don't use the printer often (at least once a month) you probably have cartridges drying up on you. If by chance you have an Epson or canon, the print head is inside the printer, so regardless of how many new cartridges you put in there, you will encounter the same problem.

If you are using a generic or third party ink, it may be too dense or of low quality clogging yourprint head.

You can try to run a bunch of print head cleanings. (your manual will tell you how) If by about 8 you are not seeing any improvement start with a new printer. Do a print head cleaning once a month ALWAYS as a preventative measure. This will ensure you get a long life out of your printer, and a top quality print from your cartridges.

Code 5200 displayed

Your printer must have ink in both cartridges, even if you only want to print black text. You may be out of ink. The second thing is you might have to align the print head. You can do that through Windows control panel > printers.

My Canon MP240 suddenly began printing streaky lines at regular intervals on the page. In between the print is good. I have done all maintenance functions without success. I think perhaps the roller may be...

Try Pulling the print head out and cleaning it manually
  1. First remove the cartridge
  2. lift the orange or green lever on the side of the cartridge holder and pull the print head out.
  3. Fill a saucer with boiling water, about 2mm deep
  4. Place the head in the boiling water and leave for about 2 mins. Dry before replacing in printer
  5. While the head is out have a look in the printer for any excess ink on the rollers or where the cartridge head "rests". Clean with tissue paper if needed.
  6. Re-assemble the printer, replace the head and cartridges and test.
I hope this helps

How do i take out the ink cartrigde out of the pixma mp240? can anyone help? cause i need to replace it with a new one

Hi, power on the printer, gently raise or pull the head up when it has finished loading and ready to print. you will notice that the ink cartridge moves to the middle, now power off the printer with the printer head still raised, gently remove the ink cartridge you want to replace and pull the printer head down back after you have replaced it.

If you can do this all alone, i advice you get a technician to help you you with the replacement.

Compliments and I wish you best of luck.

Yes you can override this empty error, when the printer is on, press and hold stop/reset for 5 seconds until the empty lights go out.

Will the canon pixma mp240 continue to print

you need to have both cartridges somewhat full to run, there is a initialization routine that the printer goes thru and if you don't have good cartridges with ink it won't let you print.
