Sounds like the fan could be pulling the cpu down or it's overheating. The cpu fins may need cleaning and will stop overworking the fan and start cooling as it's suppose to.The fan itself could be dying.
Most of the problems with cooling fans in equipment is due to loss of lubrication. What anybody would do in this case is take out the cover of the receiver and replace the noisy fan, or, in case you are able to do so, repair the fan.
In fans with ball bearings, you can do nothing but disasembling the fan and replace the tiny BB, in fans with sleeves bearings, you may disassemble it, clean it well, and put some oil or light grease in it before reasembling it.
In case you can open (I mean disasemble) the laptop do it and clean every air inlet - outlet. In case you can't use a soft brush and clean the inlet - outlet from the outer side. After that you may use CLEAN AIR in order to improve the cleaning effect (not before the brush because all the dust will go in the laptop). Leave the laptop some minutes to calm and check the results.

This is a known problem with this machine. The cooling fan is located next to the magenta scanner at the base of the machine. It needs to be disasembled and the magenta scanner lenses need cleaned. This is a pain to do put if you take to a local repair shop they should be able to take care of it in less then an hour. (If they know what they are doing)
lens usually doesnt need cleaning do to the take up mech. you have to disasemble the unit to clean. but more than likely if its not playing your lens has gotten weak and needs to be replaced,
Im not sure that you will get rid of the smell even if you vacuum clean it, but i know HOW to get rid of the smell permanetly. I work with thing like that.
I will try to explaong for you in my poor english. There are companys who works with cleaning up after a fire, the go in, start up a machine and do a "Ozone cleaning". That ozone machine kills all the oxygen in the room and that kills all the smells there is in that room. So what you need is to either borrow a ozone machine or contact a company that do ozone cleaning. Its not expensive anf it take 24h . Do that and you will never again smell that fire smoke.
