Question about Mitsubishi WS-55819 55" Rear Projection Television

WS-55819 Picture Problem

I have a 4" led line down the right side of the screen and a blue line down the left side of the screen. When the problem first started it would go back to normal after about an 1/2 hour. Now it is there all the time, occasionally clearing up for 5 minutes or so and then returning.

Re: WS-55819 Picture Problem

It's likely the convergence amps have failed here or the pin connections to the board are ring cracked. This particular unit takes two STK392-570 Sanyo amps. If their pin connections with the foil side of the board are cracked the amp will switch on intermittently...
If you're having a shop do this call around and ask what they charge to replace the convergence amps and explain your problem. Take the unit to them to save the pu/del charges and this shouldn't be too expensive. For reliability though I'd have the amps replaced anyway even if they're just cracked. These Ics operate at about 150 degrees and that much heat stress on top of the arcing they've been exposed to has probably really shortened their life.
Good Luck

I have a ws-55819. the picture is out of focus, more so on the left and right, less out of focus in the middle. Its like there are 3 separate pictures, out of alignment

Thats caused by a failed convergence IC. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model from The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions for the repair.

When I try to use the advanced convergence, the lower left corner does not come in line. The green line (runs top to bottom) is "bent" in. The blue and red will not line up. Also vertical lines on the...

WS-55819 uses two of the STK-392-570 CONVERGENCE Ic chips. If convergence is skewed and or will not adjust in some area both chips and any of the 3.9 ohm blue protect resistors right in front of them need to be replaced.

You can buy a pair of the chips on Ebay for under 14 dollars plus shipping---total parts cost for this fix should be under 30 dollars---most shops are going to get 300 or more for this repair in this set.

I have START TO FINISH, STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS REPAIR IN THIS MODEL. If you or someone you know can do it you can save the set and a lot of money. The instructions tell you every thing you will need for the repair.

If you want them let me know and I will post them here for you. If you have questions or need help let me know.

Sounds like the convergence circuit is failing,2 big ICs (have letters STK on them) on metal heatsink most likely cause. You might get lucky and only need to resolder their pins they are known to have bad solder connections. This site has more info on the subject.

No, that'll do it. Once you've changed em you'll know right away if somethin isn't right. But take faith and fire that puppy up. If the pix is good you did good. If something is amiss. I'd be happy to walk you through it. My money is on you though.

Vertical lines in the picture on light background only

It sounds like you have Image burn in on your crt's. This happens when you watch programs in 4X3 mode. (The sides are blacked or grayed out and the picture is centered in the screen). The only way to fix this is to replace the crt's. I wish I had better news. Let me know if I can be of further assistance

Convergence ICs are bad need to be replaced. You will need to replace both of them also check the resistors right next to the IC often 1 or 2 of them burn out when the IC goes.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR LEAKY C9A60 470 PF 1000 V PART # 154P400030, PARALLEL TO D9A57 ON THE POWER PCB (NOT SHOWN IN THE SCHEMATIC). 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT WOULD BE SUSPECT. 3. SELF-DIAGNOSIS INDICATES SHORT PROTECT. CHECK FOR A SHORTED IC4B01 PART # 270P261020 (VERTICAL OUTPUT) LOADING 24-VOLT SUPPLY LINE. LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB
