Look at your cd drawer. If it says DvDrw or CDrw then it will burn CD's. Sometimes it might say CD Rewritable.
If it doesn't you can always purchase one that can go inside the laptop or you can purchase one that can be external and connects through the usb ports.
you can go to the gateway site and download the drivers, but not the free applications that were installed on your laptop. Most of those (or better ones)are available elsewhere on the web.
If you do not have the windows disk that came with your laptop you can talk to gateway about getting a replacement.
Gateway support is available here: http://support.gateway.com/support/?cmpid=topnav
Hope that helps
without a cd the only thing you can do is press the function key F8 while its starting past post(power on self test) and select the option to the last settings that worked. other than that you need to do a os repair which requires a cd.
I'm pretty sure it will. The only thing is that Gateways of that generationn used a custom connector which plugs onto the hard disks standard IDE / ATA connector.Just pull this extra connector off and you can use the disk in any machine.
Also ,Toshiba used similar adapters,so if Toshiba's using one on your model, then you'll need to palce the toshiba adapter onto the hard disk from your Gateway. You may also have to go into your BIOS ,and make sure the BIOS recognizes the disk if your BIOS isn't already set to "auto detect".
it shows the hard disk of your laptop is un-detectable. check the hard disk connector/power, if u can or consult a technician for the same. if it does. then put the system disk in to cd drive and boot from it.
Sounds like the CD burner has gone out. First try doing a hardware search to see if it finds snd recognizes the CD burner. If not it will need to be replaced. Keep in mind that the drive may still read CD's fine without the ability to burn them.
