Probably just the electrical switch on the door that is broken. Check where the door latch is it may be just a wire has come off or the switch it self is broken.

I have a kenmore dryer model #796.81172210 it continues to run until you open the door and will start up if you close it.is it the door sensor

The door switch is working correctly. The drum should turn off and the heater is switched off when the door has been opened and they restart when the door is closed. If you are saying the timer has run down so there is no time remaining and the drum is still turning then the timer is failing to switch off these items.

I have to open and close the door several times to reset the timer wheel for a new cycle. cycle light

The timer works like a clock if you like. The cycle starts at 12:00 finishes around 11:55. When you open the door, the timer advances to the 12:00 position resetting itself to the start of a new cycle. The door has to be open for about 12 seconds. Check on the left side door hinge bracket and see how it plays on the door switch. old doors on the SR24's had an issue of the hinge screw coming loose which triggered the switch too soon. You should be able to rest the door against the tank without the maching running. The switch should close as the door engages the latch.

Dryer will not start

Dryers are quite simple. Just a timer and a door interlock switch.

The timer tells the machine what to do and for how long.

The door interlock switch tells the machine the door is closed and it is safe to start.

TURN THE BREAKER OFF. DRYERS RUN ON 220V AND WILL KILL YOU IN A HEARTBEAT.

Open the door and look inside the door frame for a pin switch. It should move in and out freely. If it is jammed in it will not start. Pull our with pliers if jammed and gently press in and out a few time to free it up.

Not it?

I don't know which machine you have so I can't tell you the exact location of screws etc so the following is generic.

Open the machine and check for voltage across the door switch. Proper operation of the door switch.

Timer.
Check for voltage at the timer.
Check for voltage at the start switch.

If you have voltage at the timer, door closed. It is the timer that needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Wont start door shut tight can heat timer drum lite on when door open

If you can hear the motor running with door is closed and the dryer is turned on, the the belt that turns the drum is likely off the drum or broken.

If you cannot hear the anything when the door is closed and the dryer is turned on, then the door switch is likely defective.

The other more unlikely causes are either the Timer or Switch that starts the dryer is defective.

Dryer continuously runs- and starts when you close door

ok, make sure to test the door pressure switch for its operational value. if the switch is in good condition and it doesn't appear to be faulty and, the wires are connected firmly, replace the timer/control. In most cases, your door switch will need to be replaced. these switches will develop shorts overtime.

Dryer wont start. starter switch is new and timer will run when the door is closed

HI. if the timer is running, and the wiring harness is in good condition, this will confirm motor failure. I would advise to test the operational value of the door switch as well but if the door switch is working, this will only lead to motor failure.

Dryer keeps running and timer continues to move around dial.

Change your timer. It has a malfunction in it. it's about a 100 dollar fix. Also your start switch may be bad.

Dryer won't stop running

The hot wire runs through the start button as a bridge to complete the circuit until the motor centrifigal switch closes the circuit when running. Now if you manually start your dryer and the timer doesnt advance keeping the dryer on until you open the door or advance the timer manually then the timer is good but the motor to advance the cam is faulted. The second scenario is that the dryer is off when the door is open, but when you close the door the dryer starts. With the second scenario we have a closed circuit at all times. At this point you have either a stuck start button or the centrifigal switch is closed. Usually it is the start button on this model.
