RUNS BUT WHEN THE COMPRESOR COMES ON IT GOES RIGHT BACK OFF AND WILL NOT COOL. THERE IS A BLACK CYLINDER WITH TWO WIRES PLUGGED IN TO IT AND THEY APPEAR TO BE BURNT. THE SYSTEM WILL TRY TO RUN BUT THEN KICK RIGHT OFF.

That black cylinder is a capacitor check the mfd rating and voltage rating (ex 30mfd 440v)
and replace it andrepair the burnt wires
if it still doesnt work get a boost capacitor(increases starting torque) and install that to the capacitor

Year make and model. First you need to remove and repair what you have installed. Two problems with GM on security are the chip in the lock set goes bad and the small plug that goes to this chip. The wires tend to break right at the plug. You will have to get access to the lock set. In the column, remove the bezel around it. In the dash, remove the radio bezel and radio. Sometimes you can get the lockset out here, sometimes it has to come out at the bottom. Once you have it accessible. Insert the key, turn to run. There is a square hole that you have to push a pin down and remove the lock cylinder. Then there is a plug you have to move and check the wires for continuity. Small plug, 3 wires, yellow, black, and white. If they are good, replace the lock cylinder, this is what holds the black chip. This usually works for passlock 2 and 3. Rarely does the chip or receiver for passlock 3 go bad. Look at you key. If you passlock 3, it will have P3 stamped on it.

Initially, the ignition coil wires are:
  • red - IGN + 12;
  • green - trigger wire for the left coil (cylinders 1 & 4) goes to the integrated circuit ignitor;
  • black - trigger wire for the right coil (cylinders 2 & 3) goes to the integrated circuit ignitor. There is also a connection to the tachometer.

Incidentally, to my understanding, most idling problems would be a air-fuel/carb issue. The pale burn marks of the sparkplugs indicate a lean mix where there is too much air, too little fuel. Possibilities are an air leak or air filter replaced with aftermarket open/free breathers such as K & Ns (without appropriate re-jetting/tuning).

Need coil wiring diagram


Contact points cover open.

Left side points are for cylinders 1 and 4.
Right side points are for cylinders 2 and 3

Left side points have a White wire coming from it.
Right side points have a Black wire coming from it.

One coil runs two cylinders.

One coil runs cylinders 1 and 4.
One coil runs cylinders 2 and 3.

No matter what style of ignition coil you use, the Black wire will connect to the Points. Whatever other color of wire they use, connects to the ignition switch.

BUT, check the specifications for the coils you're going to install. Connect the Negative side to the points. The Positive side to the ignition switch.

The Orange wire with a White stripe, coming out of the harness of the Suzuki Gs550 is from the ignition switch. It goes to a splice connector, and from there goes to two wires. The wires split off into one wire for each coil.

There is a White wire on the coil, that is used for Cylinders 1 and 4.
There is a Black wire on the coil, that is used for Cylinders 2 and 3.

If you heard the compresor running and it's not cooling ,probably is out of refrigerant(freon) ,but ifthere's power in the outlet and the compresor isn't working and is hot to the touch ,could be the relay or the compresor went bad ,also if there's power but the compresor is cold it could be the thermostat is open ( you can check it by putting a jumper in the thermostat wires).

Check run capacitor, or in the compressor wire box, there should be a little black overload that might be weak or loose connection.

No cooling,compressor comes on and shuts off quickly


All refrigerators compresors have a relay and a overload thermal protector ,both are located on the side of the compresor behind a black plastic cover atached to the compresor with a metal clip(or just the cover snaps in on the compresor).Unplugged the fridge ,pullout the cover and you'll see the relay and the overload replaced them (no more than $30).If this doesn't solve the problem you have a bad compresor, wich is a much more expensive job.
