Question about Dell W1700 17 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
Monitor powers on and you can see the screen. Then it disappears and you just have a black screen. If you power off and back on, you hear a click, then the screen is on again for a few seconds, then it clicks and you just have the black screen again. Have I hit some function button or is there some reason you know this screen won't stay on without clicking back to the black screen? It's like it's going into some auto toggle screen save mode or something.
I had the exact same problem. Another thread on this site recommended replacing the inverter from www.lcdpart.com
I ordered the replacement inverter from their San Francisco office this past Friday. I received in less than 72 hours later and I live in Tampa. AND THIS IS THE HOLIDAYS.
Anyway, they have a tutorial installation instruction on their website for the Dell W1700. I have never worked on a tv, but with their tutorial it took me about an 1.5 hours to disconnect, disassemble, repair, and test the tv. Everything now works again... and for only $90 including shipping.
