Car overhead remotes turn lights on & off but won't move door.

I have reprogramed both units with no improvement.

    I have had this garage door opener working for 3years.
    The garage door remotes built into one of our cars would not close the door. I tried the other car and it worked as did the keyless entry and the manufacturers remotes. I reprogramed the malfunctioning remote per written instructions and also per auto instructions. Now it will only turn on and off the built in light in the opener. And that is all the other car's remote will do also.

Craftsman overhead garage door opens at random?


There is some interference created by other wireless devices within range of your garage door. This maybe a door bell, baby motor or car immobilizer. Check to see if there are any new wireless devices, it maybe someone Cole by like a neighbor. Alternatively, you can delete the existing remotes from the unit and reprogram the remotes again, this will reprogram the emotes on a different frequency and hopefully cut out any interference. Please keep in mind that the device can be brand new, or can be an item that has been in use for quite a while. Also, the item may continue to function properly as far as you are able to tell. The only problem with the item may be that it has started to broadcast the interference, with no other symptoms noted.



Some devices are more likely to generate interference than others. This includes TV cable, cable amplifiers, surge protectors, fluorescent lights, battery charging devices (power tools, golf carts, etc.), anything that utilizes a timer (sprinkler systems, lights, alarm systems, etc.), and a myriad of others. If the problem seems sporadic, we can safely assume that the device responsible for the interference is only being operated during these times. Again, please keep in mind that the age of the device does not determine if it is capable of broadcasting unwanted interference. Any electrical device can be the source of the problem.

If the range does not improve after the "good" unit has been unplugged, replace the batteries and try programming some additional remotes to determine if the existing remotes are the issue. If the extra remotes do not have any range then you would need to replace the receiver logic board in the "bad" unit.

To isolate potential sources of interference, turn the circuit breaker off to the garage and plug the garage door opener into an extension cord from another room. If the range improves, then the interference is coming from a device in the garage. If improvement is noted, turn the circuit breakers back on, one by one, until the range problem resurfaces. This will allow you to narrow down what room the problem device is in. Sounds like your receiver has quit working. To program the remotes do this: Press and hold the button on the remote while you press and immediately release the smart/learn button. Do this for each remote. If this doesn't work your logic board is bad.

Remotes & key pad not working . Finally reprogrammed after many attempts. Now they only work within 5 feet of opener, I had to move keypad to garage frame and the remote doesn't work unless it is in...
