Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

Inspiron 6400 - I always get a burn error

It also um, 'stutters' when playing cd's or dvd's, but I can load cd's into iTunes with no problems. It's a Fujitsu MHV2120BH if that helps.

You either have a conflict on resources between Media Player and ? , ie both are trying to play the CD

Or you have not got enough Ram to support the programs you are running while playing audio and it is loading chunks of music instead of a constant stream .

Go to My Computer and right click on it that will show you what Ram is already installed

Then go to www.crucial.com and let their program scan your machine

They will tell you what the optimum Ram you can fit in that box and will probably give you the fairest price for it

Windows grabs huge chunks of the Ram to allow it to run its own routines so 512mb is barely sufficient 1gb gets by and 2gb or 3gb makes everything smooth

Can play cd's but not dvd's, just a rythmic wirring sound and green activity light

Hey,

just looking at the specifications, it should work with All CD's and Read Normal DVD discs, the movies that you can rent and buy from any store but it appears its a combo drive (Cd burner, and a DvD reader) It will only read DVD-rom and maybe few other things but it wont play any r or rw dvd's. It might also read already burned dvd r and rw discs but it wont read a empty one.

if it won't read any dvd's it could be a dirty lens. here's a video on the cleaning, its annoyingly loud but shows how to clean the lens with rubbing alcohol.

may want to turn the volume down in advance:

its for a ps2 but the drive is basically the same, and you would clean the lens in the same way.

let me know how that goes.
Thanks,
Ekse

My sound stutters on my Dell Inspion 6400 whenever I put a DVD in

You are very welcome. I am glad I could help. Apparently what happens is that the drive takes errors and XP downgrades the transfer mode. Once that happens you will have flaky problems, another problem you will see when this has occured is when you try to burn a CD or DVD. It might burn for a while and then just towards the end it will fail.

Thank you for letting me know it worked.

DVD burning problems

Well DMX.MSI that is the dell media experience, probably there is a media direct installed on the system, bad thing about that is you might need to reinstall your hard drive, you can try to install nero and check if it will work.

Unknown Error 2131 appears when I try to burn a cd from my itunes account on my dell inspiron 6400. Any ideas, have surfed the net a bit on this one but couldn't find any concrete solution. Thanks.

It can be possible the drive has gone bad.
You can try updating the firmware of the drive and in case still no go get the drive replaced.
Also, you can call Apple Support because they might be aware and may be they have a fix for the same.
