Culligans are famous for having rubber gaskets and selenoid valves getting stuck. The rubber seats are rotted by hard water and there is no way for the unit to seal itself off from flowing water to the drain. The whole valve needs to be rebuilt

Sometimes the heads go bad on those and they get stuck in a regeneration cycle that just flushes the tank out. put it on bypass or call your softner maker and alot of times they will help you diagnose it and send you replacement parts. also some of the softner heads use small electric motors that get siezed as well

Installation

Hi David,

Your water softener doesn't have a pump in it. Your home's water pressure comes either from your municipality or from the pump in your well (or basement) which has the power to move water to the top of your building, so yes, your softener will drain overhead, even a couple of floors. There is internal friction in any drain line, so your softener manual likely advises that if your 1/2" drain line is more than 25 feet long you ought to install a 3/4" drain line to reduce back pressure over that longer run.

Need a manual for a culligan mark 89 water softener, It's not a digital, it's a dial type settings.

Here is a the link for the MK 89 Use and Care Guide

If you are looking for a parts manual that may be almost impossible as they are very protected.

MARK 100 KEEPS DRAINING A LITTLE WATER OUT OF DRAIN HOSE ALL THE TIME UNLESS I BYPASS.

If the softener is trickling to the drain it needs the sealpack replaced. This is the main piston and seals all as on unit. There is a bad seal causing water to bypass it and run to drain. Sealpacks are available from your Culligan dealer. If you are a do it yourselfer it takes about 20 minutes to replace the sealpack.

How do i flush my 50 gal. elctric water heater? whirlpool.

Turn Power off first.... Attach hose to bottom spigot, turn counter clockwise, Let pressure with water still on clear anything in front of drain. Then you can shut the water off on cold water side... Let unit drain down. Turn clockwise and close drain . Turn water back on and let fill , turn a inside faucet on to get air out of line. and then you can turn power back on

I have a Mark 812 softener and it will not recharge. It starts but then no water goes through. What is the most likely cause?

The drain line flow control may be plugged. If this plugs the softener will not do anything. Pull the drain line off (depending on the model year) the flow control is either inside the elbow or inside where the drain elbow attaches. Clean it all out and reinstall. It probably has some debris in it.

Bosch Classixx 1000: Won't drain

The Solution: Top up the softener tray with extra water so that it is up to the 'max level' mark.

The softener tray works by a siphon action. Thus, the reason the tray does not empty is that not enough water is added by the machine during the softening cycle, so that the machine does not completely fill the softening tray; only when the softening tray is filled beyond the 'max' mark does the siphon action works. A partially filled tray will never empty - it's impossible due to the siphon.

The reason that not enough water is added to the tray during the softening action is that the water inlet of the machine is partial blocked (you can try to fix that) but it is simpler to just added more water to the conditioner tray.

Thus, the easiest way to ensure that the softener tray empties every time (after adding the softener to the softener tray of course) is to top up the softener tray with extra water, top it up to the 'max level' line (keep a bottle of water by the machine). That way, even if only a little water is added to the softener tray during the softening cycle by the machine it is enough to trigger the siphon action and the tray will empty!

Works for me every time, and no need to remove any parts - I used to take the tray out, clean it, scrub the outlet holes that fill the tray etc, but they used to gum up again quite quickly!

Hope that helps
