Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

Whenever i load a blu ray disc into my ps3 it loads for a while and then just stops reading the disc altogether. i get this impression from hearing the disc spinning but after some jerks it just stops. I've tried to fix it myself through the recovery menu but it doesn't help and i've not tried cleaning te lens cause this would void my warranty. could someone please help with a solution as to whether this is a hardware or software fault and if this fault means i need a replacement.

The first thing you need to do is clean the lens off.You won't void the warranty if you go and buy a dvd cleaner. All you do is put it in the ps3 and let it run.

Ps3 not loading disk

Here is how you can fix the not loading/reading disk on PS3.The problem is with the sensors under the Blu-ray drive that are not making contact with the base of the system. So, the first thing to do is open the PS3. Then, you slightly put pressure over the area where the disc loads and after this your disc should begin recognizing all discs inserted and will load a disc without any problems. This should fix your problem. If this does not fix your problem, you will need to send your PS3 to Sony to have it repaired by specialists.

Ive been told the motherboard has gone on the ps3. The only problem with the machine is that it wont accept discs anymore. It shows the loading up sign then nothing more happens.

Hi there, this is not a motherboard issue, this is a blu ray lens issue. When they become faulty they refuse to read discs hence the loading sign and nothing happening. It is attempting to read the disc but cannot. You can purchase blu ray drives for around £60 off of ebay or you could buy a faulty PS3 that the blu ray drive is good on and use that, usually they sell for around £50.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

PS3 not reading discs.

Hey man, you can try this....

1. download and install a psn game or game demo
2. put in the disc of the game or video you want to play or watch
3. load the psn game or demo as if you were going to play it
4. quit the demo as soon as you get to the start menu of it
5. go and play or watch the game or video you wanted to, sucka, cause it works now!!!

I hope this works for you, and if it does, spread the word!

PS3 isn't reading games/blu-ray/ or DVD discs, only audio CD's?

this is a symptom of blue ray lens failure (BDL)

if you are still under warranty, I suggest have the unit or BD (drive) replaced.

Ps3 wont read any disk

If you can't hear the disc spin it means that the lens is gone.
Purchase a mechanism KES-400 AAA and replace it (if you do not have warranty).
If the disc spins and does not load it might be the blu ray board. I have one with the same issue and I don't know how to pair a new board with the existing motherboard.

PS3 won't recognize disks after update

You can back up ANYTHING you wish to keep via the backup utility what I'm about to tell you to do will essentially erase your harddrive. After backing up any data you wish to keep, restore your PS3 system and to a FULL ( not quick ) format of your harddrive ( this will probably take a couple of hours ). After that, if it still doesn't work call SONY.

Hope that helps..........

Won't read any disc

You need a new laser. I have repaired several of these (about 20) with the same problem, wont read discs. The laser can be purchased for $50 online, try ebay.
