Hi there,

Normally HP inks have expiration dates. There are good reasons for these expiry dates, like the fact that you might damage the print heads if you use ink that is too old. But that doesn’t take into account the fact that, even if you don’t use your printer very frequently, your print heads still have a limited lifespan themselves.

But anyway, there is a way this expiration date check can be bypassed or removed. Unplug the printer from power supply. You just need to open the top cover of the printer, and then look inside on the left-hand side. There is a battery that is very similar on below picture. You cannot miss the battery. It’s not easy to access with your fingers, using a screw driver you can simply push the battery off its slot and make it fall down inside the printer. Get the battery from the printer then don't put it back. Now, close evrything up, plugged the power in, turn on the printer. Then that's it, you're done!

    Hi Tom,

Open the top plastic glass cover. Battery is on the left wall in the right corner. It looks like a big silver coin. You need a good light to find the battery.

I bought a black ink for my hp photosmart c5 180 and the when i turn on the printer it says the ink has expired. Can i still use it or will i damage my printer. Thanks regards Anita

Hello
according to HP
Each ink cartridge has an expiration date. The purpose of expiration is to protect the printing system and to ensure ink quality. When you receive an ink cartridge(s) are expired message, remove and replace the expired ink cartridge, and then close the message. You can also continue printing without replacing the ink cartridge, by following the instructions on the HP All-in-One or the ink cartridge expiration message on your computer screen. HP recommends replacing the expired ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of expired ink cartridges. Device service or repairs required as a result of using expired ink will not be covered under warranty.

Printer (HP deskjet F4180) showing E and color

This means that there is issue with the Ink Cartridges.
Please remove and re-insert the cartridges.
Check the expiration date on them. Also make sure that you are using genuine HP Cartridges, not refilled or Remanufactured.
If the issue still persists, please replace the ink cartridges.

I get the message that the yellow ink cartridge on my HP business inkjet 1000 has expired. I installed a new one and it still is locked up.

Unplug the printer and then plug it back in, did you take off the plastic on the new printer cartridge before you installed it.?

Experiencing a problem with an HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-one printer, after the yellow ink cartridge was replaced a 'change the cartridge' screen comes up when trying to print, even though the printer...

Try holding down the ok -- cancel -- black -- color buttons with 4 fingers while at the same time powering the unit off. Keep them held down till it is off. Then turn it back on normally & it should try to do "Maintenance" & you hear a whirling noise --- that is the ink pump spinning to try & pump in ink to the print head.
You may also try this: Press and hold the '*' key on the key pad, then press the '#' key and release them both. Then enter '123' to enter maintenance mode. Then press the right arrow (beside the OK button) until System Config. menu appeared on panel. Then press OK two times to clear the error condition, then cancel two or three times to return to the top menu. Then power it off and back on.

HP CP1700 - no cyan or blue printing

Try taking a look at your printheads. Have they been installed for some time. You may need to change them. Start with the Cyan first.

Expired HP printer cartridges

I have the identical problem with an HP Business Inkjet 1100.

Once cartridges were past date, the printer would no longer print from Windows XP. It would however work perfectly from Linux.

I did not find an ini file as mentioned in other posts, and I really did not want to open the printer as it worked fine in Linux.

The following fixed the problem:

1) Click on Start button, run
2) Type in regedit, enter
3) Navigate to HKLM/software/Hewlett-Packard/HP Printers/HPWH Toolbox/Common
4) In the right panel, right click on Ink, pick modify
5) Change 0100 to 0000
6) Save and reboot
