- Thanks for your response Aballejun. I didn't explain the symptoms very well when I wrote that I only had a blank screen at boot up. What I meant was that it eventually ended up that way, but I do get the Sony banner and I can press F2 at that time to get into the BIOS screen and make changes in the BIOS menus if I want to. The problem comes after this when I either don't press F2 to start with, or I exit the BIOS if I have gone into it. It is then that the screen clears and goes black with the small white flashing cursor in the left hand top corner. If I boot up from floppy or CD with something like Winternals ERD, I can see the hard drive partitions and can explore the files and folders without a problem. It is only when I need to boot from the hard disk that the problem occurs.
