Question about RCA D56W20 56" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Does not turn on

I've been having problems with my tv for a while now and it just finally gave in. I tried to turn it on and the green power light came on for about 4 seconds and just shut off. There was no picture or sound either. Before this I was having trouble with the color alignment, the convergence I guess. The blue would not allow me to adjust up or down. But before that the picture itself would become distorted, wavy, and colors out of line. So I would stomp on the floor or hit the side of the tv lightly and it would fix itself. Any ideas as to what could be the problem? It is about 10 yrs. old but has been no problem until now. Thanks we have unpluged it and left it unplugged for a while and then plugged it back up but still nothing

Re: Does not turn on

There might be a cold solder in its PCB... If the problem is not serious. If you know how to do it, if not a service technician can.

This problems, very common in LCD tv,after the tv was in used about a year or two.The new technalogy LCD tv don't handle heat very well, not like the old CRT Tube Tvs.The power supply board tend to have bad capacitors componnents leakage, that bulges up it top or puff up gases escape, that why it take times or couples pushes to the power botton to turn the tv on.U know basic electronic's,and have soldering tools and solders?Take the tv aparts, check for these bad capacitors, that bulges, puff up in the power supply board and replaced them, than ur power will work normal again.Or tries Websites like, to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Mitsubishi WS73713 - Now working - Timer light flashing.

My Mitsubishi WS-73713 had the same blinking green timer light problem and would not turn on. I tried the reset button and unplugging power to no avail. I found that by simultaneously holding down the remote control "power" button and "volume" button for about 30 seconds the blinking light would go out and a solid green light would come on. Even though the solid green light came on the unit would still not power up. After doing this several times however the unit did finally power up in a normal mode and appears to be working again. It's worth trying before calling in for an expensive repair. PS - From here on out I'm sticking with SONY or Toshiba sets which have given be great service.

you probably had a bad solder connection on one of the convergence modules, it's a common problem with projo tv's. that loose connection finally got bad enough to cause a short in the module, and that's what is sending the power supply into shutdown. have it fixed, and have them replace all of the convergence modules, not just the bad one. if one went out, the other(s) (there are 2, sometimes 3 of them) are the same age, and likely will also fail soon. ...... gee i was looking for a picture of one of those modules, but can't find one. well, anyway the modules are on large pieces of finned aluminum (heat sinks), and are about 3-4 inches wide, 2 inches tall, 1/2 inch thick, are usually black plastic, and have about 20 wire leads coming out of the bottom going down to the circuit board.
