I just bought a 2002 grand am gt and the back speakers are disconnected. They are the factory speakers. There are 2 thick wires in the trunk and there are thin wires hanging from the speakers with splits...

This sounds like the previous owner installed an after market audio system. The short answer is "No do not hook the split wire ends to the thick wires. I suspect that the thick wires are power and ground for an amp and they used the rear speaker wires, split ends, as the audio input to the amp which in turn drove whatever set up they used.
With that said, it sounds like they cut the connectors off of the speaker wires and put the splits on them to wire in the amp. The splits are probably very close to being able to plug into the speakers. that is a good sign that I am right. If this is the case, you can have a tech wire the speakers back in. Also, make sure that there is no live power to the "thick" wires as that is unsafe. At least get some tape over any exposed ends and tuck the wires in a safe location.
I would need pics to comment further.

Will any 6x9 speakers fit my 2002 pontiac grand am in the rear deck?

I recently helped to replace the rear speakers in a 2001 (or 2002?) Grand Am GT.
It depends on the type of stereo you have. Look at the wires going to the rear speakers. If there are two wires to each, I'm pretty sure that almost any 6X9 speaker will work.

My friend had a Monsoon system, and there were 4 wires at each speaker. There are only a few speakers that can be used on this system. As I recall, the ohm resistance is different from typical speakers. If you have a 4-wire system, you should do some reading at these websites to see what speakers to use:
http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/index.php
http://www.grandamgt.com/
or try http://www.crutchfield.com/

I did read at one of the above Forums that there are GM replacement speakers (better than original):
"I just ordered two new Monsoon rear speakers from www.gmpartsdirect and they were only $85 shipped. They are a new part number which have been updated with better cones to help prevent blowing, part number is 22698418 " If you go with GM Monsson speakers, also try Ebay. Good Luck.

I bought aftermarket rear audio speakers that have 2 connections but the car has 4 connections ,how do i compensate?

Hello! The vehicle has a negative (ground) associated with each speaker...The new speakers are internally grounded therefore they have only one wire per speaker...The Right Rear speaker is...+ Dark Blue...- is Light Blue...Left rear is +Brown...- is Yellow...Tape off the Light Blue and Yellow wires...Just connect the + wires,,,Do not ground the frame of the new speakers to chassis ground, it will damage the amplifier...

I am looking for speakers to replace the ones that r in it.They r they original speakers that came with the car. Delco speakers-they have 1 adapter female plug on each side of the back speakers. Can't find...

any aftermarket speaker you buy will not have that style plug. you need to cut off the original connector on the wiring, and use the connector for the aftermarket speakers - there are a couple different style connectors, whoever you buy the speakers from can provide the proper connectors that you will crimp onto the wiring. good luck!

My 2004 Grand Am GT Stereo Issue

I had the same problem when I changed out the factory cd player. I finally found the problem was that grand am gt cars have a couple of amplifiers with crossovers in them for the speakers and the after market stereos put out sound that has been slightly amplified already and when you hook up your new stereo to the wiring harness your sending amplified sound from your stereo the the factory amp then to the speakers this sometimes messes with he sound and clarity of the sound. My car is 2002 and the factory amps are located 1 under the glove box and 2 in the trunk behind the carpet on the drivers side. The amp and crossover in the front is to split the signal for the door speaker and the tweeter by the mirror and the amp in the trunk is to split the signal for the two way speaker in the back by the back window witch if they are like my factory speakers have 2 wiring harnesses connected to each speaker. the only way I could get mine to sound good was to run new wires from your stereo directly to the speakers and bypass the factory amps. This may not be the only way to fix this issue but it was the only way I could figure it out. I hope this helps

Installing aftermarket radio. Wheres the accessory??

Did the radio play after you took the key out?
And do the chimes come through the speakers?
If so, then you need to get a harness to go inbetween the radio and the car harness.

You have to test them, either should work fine (as in use either pair) if that doesn't work connect one pair at a time and listen for the difference, one pair might be for factory midrange and other for tweeter.. there are two different wiring configurations...

At the parts store or Radio Shack or the Marts or even a good dollar store they sell slip on connectors that have different color ends, see what size you need and let her crimp them on and finish the job..Just watch her have while having a cold one..
