Other than repairing the internal wireless, obtaining a Wireless USB Adapter is one way to deal with this. (USB must be properly functioning on your notebook of course). These devices look very much like a USB memory stick.

Hi. I am using a wireless adapter with a desktop computer. This computer connects to a wireless router but the internet acces is through a laptop in this network that uses a mobile internet solution and...

It appears the wireless adapter is not working properly or is not configured with the wireless router's settings Ie. the SSID, and encryption etc.
First install the latest wireless adapter driver.
Next configure the wireless adapter with the wireless router's settings.
It needs to be the same as the wireless settings in the laptops.

It does not connect

Wireless Adapter is a device that will receive the wireless signals and will make your computer wireless adapter. without the wireless adapter you can not use the computer to connect to the wireless network. Now a days all the laptops and desktops are equipped with the built in wireless adapters.
First check whether you have a wireless adapter on your computer ?

WIN XP
Right click on MY COMPUTER ==> properties ==> Device Manager ==>
you will see Network adapter ==> under network adapter you will see the wireless adapter ==> Right clink on the wireless adapter ==> properties => Check whether it says the Device is working properly or not ?If it says working properly then that's great !

WIN VISTA/ Windows 7
Click START ==> Control Panel ==> In the right hand side at the top you will see " Classic View "
Switch to classic view ==> you will see Device Manager ==> Under Network Adapters you will find your wireless adapter listed . Right clink on the wireless adapter ==> properties => Check whether it says the Device is working properly or not ? If it says working properly then that's great !

If you do not see wireless adapter in the Device manager , then either you do not have the adapter or the wireless adapter is not working .If you see "yellow exclamation mark" on the wireless adapter, that means the drivers are not installed for the adapter or not working. Reinstall the drivers.
Once your adapter is working properly , try to connect to the wireless network.

If you are installing the external wireless adapter to the computer and if you are using Windows 2000 or Windows 98 , ME, then you will have to connect to the wireless network using the utility of that adapter.
If you are using Win XP then you can use windows to connect to the wireless network or you can use other utility.
In case of Win VISTA, you will use windows to connect to the wireless network.

Connection drops and no available network

So you are using windows Vista and the wireless connection is dropping.
Do you have any other wireless computer which is working properly ?
If the other wireless is working properly then the problem is with the wireless adapter. Now you have already upgraded the drivers, then there is nothing much we can do.
If you do not have any other wireless laptop working wirelessly, then try to bring another wireless laptop in the network and check whether it works properly.
If you face the same problem on that computer also that means the router might be having problem

Its not showing my wifi connection which is about 4m from me...... i think it is turned off how can i turn it back on ?

Try to check your manual if you have to press a button on your wireless adapter.
Try to install the right driver on your wireless adapter.

You need to set dynamic ip configuration on your wireless adapter.
if you have windows xp installed on your computer you can check the Network Connections in the Control Panel

or type ncpa.cpl

if you want to know that your adapter is working ,
if it is, then you need to configure it properly so that it will be able to broadcast the connection.

Pm me the brand of your wireless adapter if you still have problems.
I will make a step by step process on how you should setup your wireless adapter.

Thank you :)

Marvell 88w8335 rev A2 driver

Try to uninstall the driver of the wireless adapter to the computer.

Install the latest driver of the adapter first before installing the adapter.

Check the lights of the adapter (if red not connected, if green it means that the adapter is communicating, however if there's no lights on the adapter it is a compatibility issue or the card is not working properly)
