Can't get the pop up out of the bath drain to clean. It's a Delta Monitot series.Cap screws off but plug will not come out. I've tried unscrewing the plug to no avail. There is a slot on the shaft after I remove the cap,but I hav'nt tried to insert a screw driver.Don't want to damage anything. Is there a hidden set screw or something?

Determine first if you hear any noise when it is trying to drain. If you do, the drain pump is getting power. Unplug the washer and remove the access panel below the door. There are screws across the bottom. With the panel removed, you will see the drain pump sitting on the floor on the right side. There is a cap on the front of the pump that can be unscrewed. Be careful as there could be a sunstantial amount of water that drains onto the floor. Have plenty of bath towels ready. Sometimes by tipping the washer back against the wall will cause the water to flow to the back of the tub minimizing the amount of water that will leak onto the floor. Now unscrew the cap and remove it. Look for any debris in the trap and around the impeller area of the pump. After cleaning it, reassemble everything but the front panel and try draining it again. If it works you are all set. If not, you may need to replace the pump as it could have burnt out

Removing bath drain

There are two types of tub drain stoppers for the delta brand - lift & turn and toe tap.

Lift and Turn:
The lift & turn stopper for the bathtub unscrews counterclockwise while in the full up position.

Toe Tap:
The toe tap stopper does also but if the cap may unscrew from it before the entire stopper comes out. In that case, there is a nut that is now exposed and can be accessed to unscrew the assembly.

If either of these is "spinning" without unscrewing, the threads are stripped and you would need to exert upward pressure while unscrewing in hopes of uncoupling this from the bath waste. If that doesn't work you would have to unscrew the bath waste flange from the drain pipe.
This will require access under the tub. I hope this answer the question for you. Thank you for using FIXYA. Jeff

I have a Delta push down bathtub drain stop, but it is worn and does not stop the water. It does not unscrew as far as I can see how do I get it apart without removing the tube which I can not do?

We have an American Standard lifetime whirlpool tub with the pop up drain (white). However, the pop up drain plug has always been tempermental but now it no longer wants to stay down.

Chances are that the drain assembly was not part of the tub but a 'generic' plumbing part. Is this pop up drain the type that you push down and it clicks closed and push down and then it pops up? It unscrews from the drain fitting and you can get a replacement at a big box store. A better pop up replacement is one called a Rapid-fit. It drains faster.
