My Sony dvp NS710H isn't playing most standard, well conditioned DVDs.

Hello
Just clean its laser pickup lens, by inserting a lens cleaning disc in to, and play it at least two times. If it doesn't help you, the laser pickup unit should be replaced. The lens cleaning disc can be bought from most of the electronic sparepart selling shops at your town, and won't cost more.

My RCA RTD317 has problems recognizing most DVD movie disks. It will play some disks most of the time and all audio disks, so I figure the lasers are working. What could be the problem?

If you've tried cleaning the Laser with a Lens Cleaner Disk or directly with Lens Cleaner Fluid and a QTip without any improvement then the Laser is Failing.

It takes less power to read some DVDs than others and a lot less power to read an Audio CD. The Laser will continue to deteriorate until it won't play anything.

@_@ Loco Xbox 360 Problem Guys I have no idea whats wrong with it. It's not playing any games. The laser reads CDs and DVDs flawlessly. The crazy part about it is that it DOES READ the games initially...

It seems your laser isn't reading the second layer on the games. Regular DVDs have only one layer of information, Xbox 360 games are "Dual Layered" meaning twice as much information in the same area. I would recommend buying a replacement laser from eBay and installing it yourself (as you already know how to take the Xbox apart)

I'm thinking my disk drive doesn't spin fast enough, but whenever i put a disk into my xbox, it says the disk is unreadable. If i leave the xbox on for about 20 minutes or so, the game plays like normal....

The laser has developed a "kink" brightness will fluctuate
as much as 30% relative to heat.

A new laser will more than likely remedy the problem.
The lasers are cheap and fairly easy to install yourself

Or have a shop swap it out for 50.00-70.00.

If you have any questions feel free to ask

Hey my xbox wont read my games but will still read my dvds and cds with out a prob also my xbox has started scratcging my games as well any one know what to do.

You have two unrelated issue's. First the lasers weak and unable
to increase to sufficient brightness to read duel layer disk ( GAMES)
The laser will need to be replaced. second ,if your getting ring type
scratches then the drive is doing what's called over focus . pushing
the lens assembly in to the disk as it's spinning.

Recommendation is to have the whole drive replaced and swap
out the P.C. board to the new drive.

if the disk is still spinning when the tray open causing scratches
then there is a communication error from the C.P.U. to the drive
this will require you to have the C.P.U. re-flowed to remedy
this problem.

If you need more info ask

Wrong disk

I looked at everybody's ideas, and none of the ideas seemed to fit my situation. My DVD player has been working fine for one month. I got a new DVD today in the mail. It froze, and then began to display the WRONG DISK message. Then, nothing would play on the player, All of the DVDs that had worked fine before, now would not play. They all said WRONG DISK. I tried reaching under and trying to clean the laser lens, but that did not fix the problem. I am not saying that this will fix your problem, but this is what fixed mine.

1. Place the DVD player on a table

2. Plug in the DVD player.

3.Push the OPEN button so that the DVD platter extends outside of the player (It now looks like it does when it is ready for you to put a DVD in it to play it.)

4. Unplug the DVD player. (Now the power is off, and the platter is still extended.

5. Remove the cover of the DVD player being careful not to damage the extended platter.

NOTE: With the platter extended, looking slightly from the rear, under where the DVD is spun, you will be able to see the Laser lens. It will be covered by the mechanism that spins the DVD. The lens will be connected to a mechanism that that has two rails on either side.

6. Grasp the plastic surrounding of the laser lens area and pull the entire mechanism toward the rear of the DVD player.

CAREFUL: DO NOT YANK THE MECHANISM BACKWARDS as this will break off the laser unit. This mechanism is being moved with the resistance of many gears. PULL SLOWLY AND FIRMLY, and the entire mechanism will move on the rails until the laser unit is clearly visible to you and completely from under the spinning mechanism.

7. Since the lens was clearly visible now, and easily accessable, I carefully and lightly cleaned the lens with a Qtip and alcohol.

8. Replace the cover on the DVD player

9. Place a DVD on the platter.

10. Plug in the DVD player

You will find that you no longer get the WRONG DISK message and your DVDs will now play properly. As I said, just reaching under and cleaning the laser lens did not seem to fix the problem. It was only when I moved the entire laser unit from under the spinning mechanism, and forced the DVD player to realign itself when it powered on, did the DVDs begin to play again.

Have you cleaned the laser lens? if not get a laser lens cleaner disk from any store that carries CD's and follow the instructions to clean the lens, it is easy and takes only a few minutes.

Disk error

i suggest you clean the lens. dvds and xbox cds have different read speeds, thus, they tend to acumulate dust.

Portable dvd player will play music cds but not video dvds

Chances are, your DVD player uses one laser to read CDs, and a different laser to read DVDs (since Cds and DVDs are read at different wavelenghts of light). If the DVDs you're trying to watch work properly in other DVD players, it probably means that the DVD laser is dirty, damaged, or burned out. Though you can try cleaning the laser (use Google for suggestions on how to do this, or check the Audiovox website), you will most likely have to get the DVD player repaired, or buy a replacement. Many of the newer CD/DVD players sold today use a single combination laser, which reads both CDs and DVDs, which means that when the laser fails, it will not work at all. Wish I had better news for you, but I guess that the only consolation you have is that your Audivox player still works with CDs...
