My magnavox 37MF321D/37 will not turn on. It

My magnavox 37MF321D/37 will not turn on. It started fading by barely powering up...the power button would flash green. Then it just quit all together. Any advice?

I know this is an old thread but I had a friend bring me his tv to be repaired. I've already pulled the power supply apart and checked the capacitors, but none of them are bulging. I pulled capacitors 2074 & 2081 to check them with my meter and they appear fine that way as well. The symptoms of the tv are as follows: plug in to wall outlet and the screen flashes with no pic, power light is on constant green with no blinks. Can anyone please assist me further so that I don't replace parts that aren't bad? Thanks for any assistance. By the way, all the diodes, and other components look fine with no burn marks. The other board next to the power supply board has a few marks that look suspicious though.

I had the same problem with the blinking green light. These are the parts one the power supply I replace to repair it. note: If the power supply is repaired you will get a solid green light and the backlight will light up almost immediately.

I just used this same guidance to fix my issue. I had zero experience soldering anything, but I looks through these videos (plus some one that dealt with soldering in general), and I fixed my situation. It totally works.

    Thanks!!

What position is the 1n914 going into?

  • wolfvan13 Nov 12, 2010

I replaced the buldging leaking capacitor, nothing. I replaced the switching diode, nothing. I have triple checked all of my solder joints. There is a red blinking led visable on the left side of the TV, viewing from the back with the cover off. No certain order or code. Any ideas?

My 37" magnavox just went out today as well... only the 2074 cap and 6079 zener diode seem to be bad... Will be going to Radio Shack tomorrow and replacing said parts. I will post as to my success of failure.....

To answer the above question.... the 1n914 I believe is the 9.1V zener diode at 6079, mine is completely toasted and black.

  • go99edwards Dec 21, 2010

I also have a 37" Magnavox and the 2074 cap is bulging and venting and the diode in the 6079 position has made the board under it dark. Will replace tomarrow and update my results

I too studied this clip for the same problem and finally dove into it with no experience in electronics at all. Was able to correctly identify the bad capacitors and ordered them from Mousser Electronics in Mansfield Texas. They came in 3 days and I put them in today and if worked just fine. Thanks to who ever for the video clip.

    No problem!

Hi there. I've been working on this same issue, and while helpful, I was wondering if anyone knew what the component was at location 3045 on the back of the power supply board. I can't tell if its a smd diode or cap, its burnt to a cinder in addition to the burnt diode at 6079?

My magnavox has no sound the instruction manual roles on going thru the television, I cannot shut it down. The red and green light is on in front of the tv. I can't change channels, I can't get sound, and I can't shut it off. Have to unplug it.

I had the same problem w/the blinking light on my Magnavox. Both 1200MF 35V caps were bad, as well as the 2200MF 25V cap. I replaced the two 1200MF 35V caps with two 1500MF 35V caps I acquired at my local Radio Shack. I then replaced the 2200MF 25V cap with an axial 2200MF 35V cap I also acquired at the local Radio Shack. For ~$15 I fixed my HDTV. Couldnt be happier. Hopefully the new, slightly heavier duty caps will last longer than the original ones did.

I have had a flashing green light problem twice on my 42" Magnavox LCD. Less than 5 months, it would power on showing digital video on the screen and a flashing green light. Couldn't view cable or dvd or operate any buttons. To reset, I had to pull the hdmi cables then unplug the tv set. Just cycling the power alone would not reset this television.

This problems, very common in LCD tv,after the tv was in used about a year or two.The new technalogy LCD tv don't handle heat very well, not like the old CRT Tube Tvs.The power supply board tend to have bad capacitors componnents leakage, that bulges up it top or puff up gases escape, that why it take times or couples pushes to the power botton to turn the tv on.U know basic electronic's,and have soldering tools and solders?Take the tv aparts, check for these bad capacitors, that bulges, puff up in the power supply board and replaced them, than ur power will work normal again.Or tries Websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

37mf321d won't turn on- no busted capacitors

Hey Superdave,
Does the whole tv turns off when the picture turns off ??? What you're describing sound like a defective CCFL backlight. This would make since why someone threw it out because the repair estimates of replacing the bulbs would knock your socks off. Most will suggest ordering a new LCD panel assembly which would cost way more than what the set is worth. On some sets, when a CCFL is out, the screen will come on for a few seconds then go out. On other sets, after so many "lamp failures" logged in memory, the set will not power up at all and just flash trouble codes through the power indicator.

It may be touching in the back of the tv on a power point. Yours is doing the same thing mine did before it finely all most burnt up it self and my house The metal casting that the tv mounts on in the tv ,does not have enough room in it. the metal casing touches one of the power supplys in the back and shorts out. Sounds like you need to repair the power supply, don't fret, it can be really easy.  Here is a pair of youtube videos I made after following some advice on this website from other posters:

My magnavox 37mf321d 37 LCD tv

This is a bad power supply and an easy fix. Their are several electrolytic capacitors on the power supply. If one is bad it will have a bulge on the top. Mine had a bad 2200uF and a bad 1200uF capacitor. About $7 worth of parts at Radio Shack. Radio Shack had the 2200uF but it was axial leads instead of radial. (leads come out of each end instead of one end) but It will still fit. They only had a 1000uf capacitor so I combined that with a 220uF capacitor and wired them in parallel. Make sure you put them in with the correct polarity.
