Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380011A 80 GB Hard Drive

Possible ST380011A hard drive crash

System started to go slow, lock up and then not reboot. Have managed to get it started after several failed attempts, so I could back up all the data. It was giving me message 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key' before it gets into Windows XP. Now it either just sits at a blank screen before getting into Windows or goes impossibly slow in Windows and then I find it difficult to open/close any programs down. I am mainly using Cubase SE, which I have been using on this PC okay for a few years. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Use powerdata recovery software and get back all your data first. use demo version first.
or use imaging software like acronis true image and make a explorable image . browse the image and get data back first
then low level format the hard drive from free software from hdd dot com

you will get suscess. imaging can take upto 3 hours. and powerdata can take upto 2 hours. keep a drive ready to back up data.
use a backup without bad sectors. dont over write or restore data to the same drive you do recovery from.

It really looks like your hard drive is giving up on you. happend to me a few times so far (have a shitload of copmputers) and happends only with drives i get sent via UPS. when i order them via FedEx they last so long until i replace them due size limitations. Looks like UPS thoses them around harder. i thnk i read once that they drop the packages pretty much all the time from about 3 feet in general. create an image of your harddrive while you still can and just transfer it onto a new one and you will be all set.

My computer is slow and does crash most of the time how do i fix it?

It could be a number of issues.. Its best to start with the most obvious and the cheapest first..
You pick up incompatibility issues with drivers and software as you go about your business and systems and computer technology develops. These minor issues can slow the system and causes crashes over time. From time to time its good practice to clean the system and reinstall from fresh.... A clean reinstall and updating drivers can improve this considerably. The other issue could be a failing hard drive.. I have seen this many times when the hard drive starts to fail and the system freezes.. From there you are looking at Ram failure or a motherboard or graphics card failure.

My computer fails to boot up, it states i am missing NTLDR. can this be downloaded.

It sounds like your computer is trying to load from the network. This is done if you don't have an operating system on local media such as a hard drive.

If you boot from hard drive, either your OS has been corrupted, the drive has crashed, or somehow the boot order has been corrupted.

I suspect your HD has been corrupted, possibly by a virus.

TRY starting in safe mode by hitting F8 several times as you try to boot.

Hard disk very slow and restart.

Seagate is known for hard drive failures. The S.M.A.R.T. feature may warn you that the drive is failing. This is not uncommon and is most likely the case of why it is going slow now. You should contact seagate ASAP to see if they can give you a replacement.

XP sees and names added slave HD but won't show files

What kind of Windows do you have on the 4300 most likely the reason is file systems. The XP has NTFS file system and is not readable under Windows 98 SE if that is what you have on your 4300 computer. An option that you have is to update the 4300 to an XP to read the data on the drive.

Why is our dell pc starting up so slow

This could have a million possible soultions. Some general possibilities are a recent software or driver update, a recently installed program, a recenly installed piece of hardware, or some malicious software.

You could also have a drive error. If you are using windows, run the checkdisk utility.

Start>My Computer
Right click on C: drive and choose Properties
Tool Tab>Check Now
Enable both options and click Start
Answer Yes or Ok for any following dialog boxes
Reboot and let the utility run - this can take several hours
The computer will eventually return to Windows

You should do this for every hard drive, but only C: drive will require a reboot.

If it is still running slow, reply to this post and I'll offer some free software suggestions to clean up your computer, but please indicate your operating system, anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall software.

Hope this helps - Good luck!

Give this utility a whirl

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23069-order,1-page,1-c,utilities/description.html#

This should help you get the data on the drive back to a safe location.

Once that is done, try to reformat again. It could be that when you lost power, the heads crashed. Of course, that is not a good thing.

Unfortunally the only solution to your problem is to replace the hard drive. To recover your files i would recomend the following software in this website: http://www.unistal.com/prevent-data-loss.html Please let me know how it went, Vincent
