My mother gave me this tv and I am trying to connect it to my comcast cable connection. But it appears that this model tv may not accept channels higher than 99 channels. Even with auto chan scan/set-up and spaces for three channel digits, the tv will not accept chan 100 and above. My mother did not have the owners manual so maybe the tv (a 1999 manufacture) is not capable of more than 99 channels. Can you help?
can not get channels above 99

Depending on the cable company, some like Comcast have gone mostly digital meaning when you connect the TV directly to cable without a cabe box you will only get around 35 channels. The only way to get around that is to get a cable box. If you have Comcast service already they offer what they call a DTV cable adaptor which will allow you to get most cable channels. These DTV adaptors in most areas are free for the first two per household. I hope that helps : )
If your TV is the model listed in the heading, there's nothing in the TV that would give you that message either. So it must be coming from your cable converter. If it was supplied by Comcast they will have to do something about it whether they know that message or not. If it's a digital tuner you purchased on your own, check the manual or try the manufacturer's website for information. But that message can't be coming from the TV.
The remotes you get from the cable company are universal and kinda cheap. ive ran across this multiple times but since i dont know what model remote you have the only advice i can give is that the code you used is not the right code if it doesnt do all basic functions (on,off for the tv,volume)its just the wrong code if the codes you stated are the only ones available the book you got with the remote should explain how to run an auto scan.hope i was some help
Yes, you will need an external antenna to pull in the digital signals. It will not work with the built-in antenna on the GE. Alternately, you can use an external antenna (ie, rabbit ears), connect them to the converter box, then connect the converter box to the antenna jack on the back of the TV (I think it has one). Granted, not an elegant solution for a kitchen TV, but it beats not using it anymore.
I think your TV is made by RCA and it should go to cable channel 125. If Comcast has any channels above 100, you should be able to get them.
RCA TV's have a problem with the solder connections inside the tuner. This may be your problem. If this is the case the tuner would have to be taken apart and re soldered.
