How do I get the cap off the food grinder, as it had toothpicks and nasty, greasy debris in there. I washed a dirty terracotta planter in it and it now makes a weird noise during the wash cycle.

It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.

if you have a torx 20, and torx 15 screw driver, you an remove the screws from the top plate of the wash motor, and underthere youll see another t15 screw converingthe "chopper" assy, sounds as if a seed, of chicken bone, perhaps apiece of glass hasgottne down there

Recommendations:
-Switch to a brand name detergent powder - like Electrosol or Cascade and do not fill the dispenser cup full. You will notice the difference immediately.
-Remove the filter assembly one more time and inspect underneath with a flashlight. Look closely for debris and also inspect the impeller to look for damage and that it is spinning freely.
Reassemble and listen for the growling sound. It should not happen. If it continues, you may have a a failing wash motor / motor bearing.
Please report back what you find. OK?
SOURCE: Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash Dishwasher - top rack arm not spinning
Hi: I just posted a similar problem, but found a solution. After taking the arm, etc. apart (and verifying no blockages), I thought maybe the lack of water pressure was being caused by the fact that there are TWO holes for the top spray arm (higher and lower rack setting) on my model. ie. that water was being forced out of both holes, causing a drop in water pressure, which was causing the top spray arm to stop spinning. I plugged the unused hole with a wine bottle cork (to keep the water from spraying out the unused hole), and voila, it now works.
I wish all appliance fixes were this easy...!

Hi
Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due
to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that
the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is
present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and
drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump
completely. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller &
clean the chopper assembly. Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the
complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps...
Please post back for any further assistance.
