Question about Wharfedale PowerCube PC-12 Subwoofer

1 Answer

Wharfedale Powercube uncontrollable loud noise

I bought a Wharfedale Powercube 10A about 5 years ago, and after a couple of years it developed a fault where when turned on it just makes an incredibly loud and continuous noise. None of the controls have any effect, and unless i pull the powercord out the fuse blows.

thanks very much for the response theopaul. Is this a solution you've found yourself?

the amplifier for the sub is currently with wharfedale customer services (with a chap name paul actually - you?). I'm not sure what the progress is - they've had it since early November last year and aren't the easiest to get hold of.

I might pass on what you've said and then see what the response is.

Wharfedale tv

Sadly, it's probably not cost-effective to repair this TV. The prices of large screen TVs are constantly falling, so my advice is to replace it with a newer model and sell the Wharfedale as faulty on eBay.

Wharfedale dv832b software upgrade? I bought this a ouple of years ago and sinc then it has never updated itself eve though it is enabled. I have waited and nothing haseer happened. A couple of weeks ago I...

Just get into the Wharfedale site and upgrade it with latest software available, that suit to your DVD-M3. It will take some time, say about an Hour to complete the donload and installation. Don't stop as download stops, the softwre must be installed, and it will happen only after the full download. After sucessfull download, the set will propt you that has done sucessfully. Till then, never switch off the net connection, or do nothing at set end. If installation is not successful, the fault you describe here will occur. OK.

My subwoofer makes a very loud shreaking sound consisting of a mixture of high and low tones (almost sounds like it is about to explode) after power has been on for about 5 minutes. I had the problem...

Did they charge you much for that 'fix'?

Though it may have become damaged in the original problem, the driver won't make loud sounds by itself in the absence of a signal. The internal amp is probably malfunctioning and it is very capable of destroying its own driver. Don't let it continue when it starts acting up.

Did it work correctly for more than 5 minutes after the driver replacement? Take it back and make them do it right this time.

I had a powered sub amp problem that the local guy couldn't fix so I just disconnected it and wired the driver directly out to a separate amp. Works fine as a passive sub.
