Brown my friend is for the 4 way valve solenoid, that is if you have a heat pump, ( it uses freon for heating instead of natural gas) perhaps you got the wrong thermostat, if you have a brown you need a thermostat for a heat pump, a regular thermostat is not going to have a brown connection.

Yellow : Battery - should have a 1A inline fuse - (memory)
Red : Ignition - should have a 5A inline fuse - (power)
Black : Ground (chassis)
Light Blue : Power antenna
Green : Left Front Speaker
Orange : Right Front Speaker
Blue : Left Rear Speaker
Red : Right Rear Speaker
Gray : Common ground for all speakers

You need to verify the function of each wire with Tempstar then cross it with the WR stat. Call the techline if you need further assistance 18002842925.
