    My problem is the same

  • kenndenise Dec 02, 2007

Same thing... driver report (in device manager) says it's loaded and working properly but media center can not find the tuner.

Just purchased notebook in Nov 07. The TV Tuner was working fine then. 3 weeks later, and after some drivers and bios were updated, the tv tuner stopped detecting cable signal. I have restored the stystem to its original state in hopes it would work again. No such luck. Now the computer is not even detecting the tuner hardware, even though the tuner is plugged in.
HP Tech Support is unable to help. I waiting for a high level manager to call me back to see if they can figure out the problem. The reason why I bought this computer was the tv tuner and now it does not work. Some additional infor. Operating System is Vista Home Prem 32-bit. TV Tuner does not work with either Media Center or QuickPlay. Something else that happened at the time the tv tuner stopped working was, BrightHouse, our cable company, had a change in their channel line-up. I checked the cable connection and it works fine with a tv. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. As I said, before it was not getting a tv signal, but after the system restore, now it is not even detecting the tv tuner hardware. The tv tuner is also not listed on Device Manager. Help! Anyone?

Sheesh! I have the same problem... bought the laptop in Dec 2007. Tuner worked until I removed the card. Then Media Center stopped recognizing it. Contacted HP service. That was awful. They just sent another tuner. Same problems. What a joke.

There must be some simple fix to the problem.

  • Motunrayo Mar 11, 2008

plugs in the tuner, it detects it and tell me to install the driver, i used the cd but the situation remains the same. It said the hardware is not properly installed and thus will not work properly, check from the device manager, it detects it but said its not properly installed.

Same trouble. I bought the laptop in December 2007. HP support was somewhat helpful after many hours on the phone. Still no resolution to the problem though. The tuner doesn't work.

I have a lot of problems with this express card, first i plug the card before install the driver, so the card was detected, but capture signal about 3 minutes, after that no signal captured, but card detected. To uninstall driver, i have to plug the card, go to "administrador de dispositivos" (mi notebook is in spanish -sorry the bad english-) and uninstall the driver and the software related, turn off the computer, unplug the card, turn on the computer, install driver, plug the card, wait to install hardware, an all channels working, but i end session or turn off computer, and the next time i want see tv, only one channel work. i do all the process again and all channel work. i restart and only one channel work. Help please.

Guys, its a hauppauge driver.. if you use the stock HP driver it works, but you need to run the hauppauge HWCLEAR utility to remove it, and reinstall the HP driver. SOME hauppauge drivers will also work prior to 4.1D. Hp's tech support on this issue is pure ****, they just resell this junk with the manufacturers word it works. The HVR1500 was never released to the public, and its function in XP MCE and Vista is poor on many versions of laptops. There is a IRQ issue which hard hangs the system and you have to manually adjust the IRQ which is NOT an easy task since it defaults to IRQ16 The express card tuner for pavillion 8000 models should be avoided by the general public. It will work for 1-2 min and lock up the system, unless yer a tech guru, your chances are slim. HP TS will have you replacing hard drives, and reinstalling OS's to no avail. Choose another product and save yourself the headache.

You are installing the driver before putting the card in right?

Had same problem. Windows says device is installed properly, Media Center says no TV tuner is detected. Hadn't rebooted in a few days, so I restarted the laptop and now it works! Try rebooting.

It's obvious we all have the SAME problem, but million dollar question is.. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW FIX IT?????????????????

Do you get an error message in Windows Media Center when you try to watch live TV. If so try rebooting the machine.

Note: Windows Media Player is required to run this product. If you don't have it will have to upgrade your operating system. Also make sure you have the right driver.

How do i connect FM to a SAA7130 T.V card

The SAA7130HL card does NOT support FM radio. I own this same card. You would have to get either model SAA7133HL or SAA7135HL to receive FM radio. I don't know where you could purchase either one of these cards manufactured by Pinnacle.
I purchased the PCTV Systems model 800i HD Digital and Analog TV + FM radio card so I could capture digital TV signals and listen to FM radio, and I have installed both cards in my computer. Amazon has the 800i card for $63.78 for Win XP and Win 7 systems with a regular PCI slot:
Pinnacle PCTV HD PCI Card 23040
Amazon also has an Asus Digital TV/FM card for $18.99 for Win 7 and Win 8 with a spare PCI - Express slot:

Asus PCI Express Television Tuner MY CINEMA EHC3 150 NAQ FM AV RC
I hope this helps you.

HP Express Card Digital / Analog not working

First thing I tried to do was to install the drivers that came into the CD didn't work, just using mydvd9 the import/aqcuire option I could have some noise signal, but couldn't find a way to select channels and hanged after a while. This is too trickier, I thought, it should be a way to used quickplay and other applications.

I couldn't get anything from HP site so investigating I found the following.

1) Had to upgrade quickplay to latest version (is pretty cool btw)
2) The card internally is a Hauppage and found that is actually the HVR1500
Drivers + application can be downloaded at

3) After upgrading quickplay and installing drivers and application from hauppage, Quick play had additionally an hp digital tv tuner entry, but here in canada there is no digital signal transmitted through antenna.
4) I have reinstalled manually the drivers that came in the CD, but from the c:\swsetup\HP Digital tv tuner folder
5) After this I had at quickplay a second source "Hp Analog Tv tuner" which allowed me to caputure the regular air signal and wintv worked as well

I'm sure that I did some redundant steps, but it worked and now can I have everything working (quickplay, wintv, digital, analog signals)

Hope this helps and btw I haev uploaded the manuals for thouse who can't get it, since HP doesn't have them in the website.

Tv tuner option

If are talking about the Express Card slot into which the ExpressCard TVTuners are installed, it should be located on the Left side of the Notebook.
Please go through page number 18 of 266 in the Manual of the Notebook which is available through the link below which shows you the exact location of the Slot :

By the way, HP no more sells the ExpressCard TV Tuner Cards in HP Shopping.
Only USB TV Tuner Cards are available from HP.
However, you should be able to find Express Card TV Tuner Cards from other Manufacturers.

Hope this helps...
