Its 2 yr old lappy. When I press power the blue light on power button comes on alongwith the small power LED in the front. The fan spins for a while and goes dead. No activity on HDD or DVD. Dark black screen. Any clue what could be wrong? I used it previous night and turned off in normal way. Next evening when tried to switch on the problem was noticed. Already tried removing memory and HDD, putting on AC power only, removing battery and AC power and keepning aside for few hours. Nothing helped. Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail. A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust. Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.
check your power fan of your processor underneath on the laptop, possible cause is overheat, bring it to the shop for whole diagnosed..
if you continously used on that situation it might cause some problems to other parts due to overheating..
The LEDs each indicate something is conected or normal. There is one for hard drive activity, power, battery, and wireless. Blue is good. Orange is bad. First take the charger to a shop to have it checked. If bad replace it. If good the the problem is either battery or the connector on laptop. Since the battery is new it sounds like the connector to me.
take it with you when you go and try the new cord before you buy it , Toshiba's are Notorious for the charger cords to be crappy and also the port for the laptop itself to break and need repairing , witch you have to send it to toshiba to get done if that is the case
Try this: I left mine on, in its coma cond overnight. The next am I touched the
enter key and it booted up! 5 days later it went back into is coma. Yeah, Toshiba Laptops ****! My A135 S2246 is doing the same thing. You and I aren't alone either. Search for: "toshiba sucks" and you'll see how many there are, lots of them. 1 week after warranty expires it started doing exactly what yours is doing. I swapped out ram with known good ones, HDD also, I connected external monitor, keyboard, nothing changed. I re-seated the CPU, temp disconn cmos batt -no help. Cleaned all the connectors & grounds, no help. Observations: Fan runs on & off, I feel heat being pushed out. Can hear Hdd spinning, indicator led briefly flashes when I first turn on. Fn indicator led will illuminate, sometimes. caps lock led -not at all. numeric keypad led, no. the only key that seems to do anything is Fn. Toshiba wanted $35. just to discuss it over the phone. -WRONG!
Its now two years old and about as useful as a milk bucket under a bull!
if there is no display whn u press the start button then your motherboard is screwed. i had this problem with mine too. I got it replaced fro free as it had a warranty... anthing more contact email@example.com
yr problem should be from the screen to really confirm if yr laptop is truly on cos u dont just gudge by seing the power led on. to check if yr system is on press the caps lock key or press the fn+num lock key if the indicator led comes on then yr system os on now troubleshoot yr screen by checking the module, connector n fuses. if the caps lock led doesnt come on then yr system just powered on because it saw a power source in that case try to replace the memory(ram) next the processor.
guess this helps
thanks for using fixya
