Re: self clean

If your oven has a clean cycle it will say clean on the knobs or a button if digital.self cleaning cycle turns on both broiler and bake elements and temperatures up to 1500 deg.and disintegrates everything in oven also you will have a door lock on oven door

What buttons do I turn on my 25 yr old Kenmore stove to use the cleaning feature

I think that range had a mechanical clock. On it, you have to set the start and stop time (and push or pull the knob(s) to activate it), close the lock lever, and set the temperature and function dial(s) to self-clean. Unfortunately, if your clock isn't working (which is a common failure on stoves this old), you won't be able to run the self-clean cycle.

Cannot do anything but self=clean

The oven temperature is regulated by a temperature sensor when placed in self clean the sensor is removed from the circuit and full power is applied to both the bake and broil elements causing an the temperature to exceed in some some models up to 1,000 F. I would recommend against using self clean for the simple fact that no oven cavity to this date has been designed to withstand that high of a temperature and therefore excess heat is passed upward resulting in damaged lock mechanisms, control boards, and other electronic components. More than likely your thermostat or oven control has been damaged and needs to be replaced. I would replace the temperature sensor as well

Kenmore oven self cleaning oven dispalys F9

The F9 code indicates there is a problem with the door lock.

Try disconnecting the power to the range for 10 seconds and reconnecting. Open the oven door and hold the door switch plunger in while you try these things. Put the control into clean for 5 minutes then cancel clean. You must hold the door switch plunger in for the 5 minutes.

Try canceling the clean cycle without putting the control into clean.

Turn oven on Red self cleaning light comes on

You oven latch handle is either bent or the switch that attaches to the last assembly is bad. More likely you have a bent latch. You can get to it after unplugging the range, lifting the cooktop up (3 or 4 screws under the front lip) then the panel under the cooktop has to be removed to see the latch.
