The hard drive is the storage unit for the operating system , files and folders
when you install a new hard drive then format it , then install an operating system
best is now win 10 as win xp and win 7 are no longer supported by Microsoft and have dropped most drivers out of the system
to get the keyboard and any other pnp ( plug and play) units , you will have to go to the manufacturers web site for the key board , mouse , external hard drive etc, find a download for your model that is compatible with the operating system you are using and down load it

Check driver for it
If you have done this then do this

Changed jumper settings to cs than it worked as advertised

I opened up the Logitech Mouse and Keyboard Settings, turned my keyboard off, changed out the batteries and turned it back on. It then detected the Keyboard and asked for a password, I entered in the password, it said it was rebooting it and asked for another password which I entered (both passwords were given to me in the Settings). Now it is working just fine! Not sure if you have tried this but it might work for you.

First put new batterys in the mouse and key board. if you don't have a tester use a flashlight. pen light. push the remote pickup. light will blinknext push key board button and the mouse next. then try it and see if it works.
sometimes do the mouse first, Then the key board

Hi Gloria Compton, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
when you state a new hard drive are you referring to the box thingy that holds the whole computer inside it or the magnetic drive inside the box that stores information. ?
what type of keyboard are you referring to is it a usb keyboard or does it have a round plug on it green color I think or purple.
may need a usb to ps2 adapter if new computer has only got usb and doesn't have ps2 ?
the mouse would have a dongle that plugged into a usb port on the old computer ?
do you have this little plug in device known as a dongle ?
What operating system is running on the new computer ?
you may need to see if there is a software driver for you wireless mouse that runs on whatever the operating system is ?
make and model of mouse would be helpful also ?
