Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper (spysweeper) for PC

1 Answer

Webroot problems I installed webroot on my laptop about two weeks ago. Also on there is a trial for Norton Internet Security but I turned all that off for webroot to work. Webroot is "loading" but never actually loads the home screen. I am unable to perform options under webroot. How do I fix it? If it helps at all Norton was never fully uninstalled during the time of webroot.

Webroot is as good of a product as any. I personally do not like Mcafee at all. Norton is good and microsoft has its own free antivirus protection but to help you with your question I think your best bet is to look at Webroots personal help website. I have a similar issue but my Webroot has been working perfectly fine for years. I uploaded a program and unfortunately had an attachment on it that has been causing me issues for months. Truth is the really dangerous attacks to your computer will by pass ANY antivirus software and unless you have true knowledge of your registries and files it can be almost impossible to fix a compromised computer.

I just went through this this afternoon, I spent 8 hours removing and updating and loading McAfee and running it too.

Webroot is a bad program, it is hard to remove and some of the componets just cannot be removed unless you do a search for the file and then delete it....if you need a certain dll then the anti-virus should detect that and remove or quarantine it.

I would suggest that you remove Webroot, and install another anti-virus program...I swear by McAfee, it removed over 30 problems or quarantined them, it works and is well worth the money spent....If you have Comcast, it is FREE to download on all of your computers in your home....just part of the internet service.

PS...Uniblue registry booster is no good, and another one that is hard to remove...it has spyware too.

Spysweeper and internet explorer

Webroot is an Internet security company based out of Colorado.
The company, founded in 1997, offers Internet security programs for businesses and home users.
The Webroot Internet Security Essentials and Webroot Internet Security Complete programs include a firewall that's designed to monitor incoming data and filter out potentially unsafe data.
Consequently, Webroot does not recommend that you disable the firewall.
Nevertheless, if you want to use a different firewall or if the firewall is blocking legitimate data, disable it with a few clicks.

Launch the Webroot program.
Click "Edit Settings" under "PC Security" in the "Home" panel.
The PC Security panel opens.
Click the "Firewall" tab.
Check the circle next to "Allow All Traffic." The Webroot Firewall is now disabled.

Webroot and spysweeper 2011 no longer puts cookies into quarentee section

I have the same problem: Webroot 2011 no longer detects and quarantines cookies. If you go to the Webroot Support page and type "no longer quarantine cookies", it offers the generated issue: "You want to know why Internet Explorer cookies are not detected in a scan"; to which it offers the following answer: "A recent Microsoft security update (KB 2559049) [...check your Windows updater, I got this security update on my computer on August 10th...] prevents Webroot security programs from identifying spy cookies on systems where the update is applied. Although these cookies cannot be detected, your core antivirus and anti-spyware protection is not compromised. Viruses and spyware are still blocked. Webroot engineers are actively investigating options to restore spy cookie detections and any solutions will be provided in an upcoming release." (This statement is not dated; I am looking at it now, August 28th, 2011, on their Webroot Support page.) I have Windows Vista operating system and Webroot 2011 version 7.0.11.21. My Webroot Antivirus with Spy Sweeper hasn't swept up anything in scans in the last couple of weeks, but it did block an internet site last night; so I think it's still working. Hope this helps!

Is your subscription expired?
I would recommend uninstalling webroot and installing Avast
http://www.avast.com/index
They have a brand new virus protection scheme called sandboxing and its quite advanced. Plus its free! Better than norton or webroot by farrrrrrrrrrr.
Have a nice day

You need to contact webroot to get this kind of stuff. It's their program and it might not be compatible with Win 7 64-bit.
