Question about Maxtor DiamondMax 3400 (90840D5) 8.4 GB Hard Drive

2 Answers

Hello Everyone, I have an old PC windows98 with maxtor 90840D5 hard drive. Sometime back I've removed the hard drive and attched it to the new PC, so as to access the old files.Today when I try reattach it back to the old CPU (ba'se of the scanner problems with the new CPU)it doesn't work and I get a message asking me to insert a boot disk in drive a:. and the PC doesn't even boot. Where can I get win98 boot disk. Should I goto CMOS and do the settings again or have I done anything wrong? Please help. I haven't changed any of the jumper settings when I attached the hard drive to the new CPU in the first instance. It has worked just fine on the new CPU. Any help is much appreciated Thanks in advance

If your HD has a bootlog and you didn't change its format from FAT32, go into CMOS and change the startup settings to boot from the C drive. If you don't have a viable bootlog on the HD, then there are a couple of site where you can DL a boot image:
http://www.allbootdisks.com/download/98.html
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
Best of luck.

You need to detect your harddisk in bios setup.
For that when you power up the computer press "del" key to enter in bios.
Then check your harddisk is detected in bios.
If not cxheck power cable and ide or sata cable connected to harddisk.
Reconect both connection to harddisk then check.

Don't know how to upload data to new computer

Browse to the location on the new computer where you want to save the old data.
Right click and choose New Folder.
Name the folder Files from Old PC
Press enter twice and the new folder will open.
Plug the Maxtor USB into the new computer and turn on the power.
The drive will install and be given a drive letter in my computer.
Browse to the drive in My Computer and double click the Maxtor drive.
Browse to the folder where you saved the old data and open it.
Now do the keyboard command CTRL + A (select all) this will select all the files.
Click one of the selected files & drag them all to the new folder you have open and let go.
All of the files from the Maxtor will copy to your new computer.

I backed up my old Dell laptop last year. I bought a new Dell laptop. I want to access the backup on my Maxtor and cannot do it. I want to load it onto my new laptop. How do I do this? I want to back up...

Very Simple. Just connect the Maxtor External Hard drive to your new laptop. Open Windows Explorer and you will see the Maxtor appearing as a Drive. Access the files from the explorer.
My advice is that create a new folder on the maxtor and then do a backup of your new laptop on to this new folder.
DO the same for your office PC.

Hi there

Hello
that depends
is the old disk a IDE disk?
do the new computer have a IDE port on the motherboard?
if so you can put it in your new computer. but you cant move your OS and use the same disk. you can use is as storage.
I quess that your new computer has sata right? and I think its a bad idea to move your maxtor disk to the new computer because it can slow your PC down.

Good luck

MAXTOR HARD DRIVE

Go to "My Computer".
Right click your drive and select properties.
click the "security" tab.
select one by one and click "remove" for each user.
When all users have been deleted, click on add.
Under the "Enter the object names to select", type "everyone"; click OK.
now, under "Permissions for Everyone", click the check box for "Full Control" for "Allow". Now all the boxes for Allow should be checked.
click OK.
Now you should have access to the drive.

Windows repeats 'new hardware found' when I attch my maxstor One touch II

The reason is simple, your Maxtor drive "does not" support Windows-ME. Since Windows-ME is not supported by your Maxtor drive the drivers dont get resolved and will never get installed. FYI - Windows-ME is almost 10 years old. What makes you think Maxtor will support Windows-ME?

Maxtor Diamondmax 80GB ATA 133 help!

there are several programs you can use to get your data off.
You will have to slave your new drive on to the IDE cable that your old one is on, you can then use symantec ghost to clone the old drive to the new,
Acronis true image is the other program you can use, put acronis true image on the new drive and the slave the old drive and take and image of it then recover it to the new drive.
Hope this helps
