1 Answer

MY STACKABLE DRYER FRONT FELT BELT HAS 2 OF THE 3 PLASTIC PIECES BROKEN OFF AND NOW THE DRYER MAKES A THUMPING NOISE SINCE I ASSUME THESE KEEP IT BALANCED, SO HOW CAN I FIX THIS OR WILL I NEED TO BUY A NEW BELT? ALSO I FOUND I METAL PIECE APPROXIMATELY 8" LONG WITH HOLES THAT LOOK LIKE SCREWS COULD GO IN IT BUT I CAN NOT FIND ANYWHERE IT WOULD GO. CAN YOU TELL ME IF IT DOES GO TO THE DRYER AND WHERE IT DOES GO? THANK YOU

GE DPXH46GA6CC gas dryer makes large humming noise in heat cycles and burning smell

Two things are likely going on here,1- something is dragging down your motor check for a twist in the belt, idler pulley bad, belt installed wrong or wrong belt. Also check your front drum felt and glides if the felt is bunched up that will drag down the motor. Now the smell you probably have some felt or lint in the burner clean it carefully you do not want to damage your igniter.

My tumble dryer was making a thumping noise and now the drum has stopped going round but when turned on it stil blows hot air?

Hi smallspider3...
You have two problems.
1...Noisy/Flat Drum rollers
2...Possibly a broken drum belt or faulty motor.
You did not say what make or model dryer so I will give you my generic fix for both problems.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS

Note: This method works with most front loading machines.

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer if you have to.
Note: Some tops hinge and tilt backwards so they do not have to be removed and the electrical console with stay with the lid.
Also remove the lint filter and the screws holding the lint filter housing in place.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer by removing two screws located on either side of the top of the dryer housing and unplug the door switch.
This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor. Now is a good time to replace the front felt seal on the drum if it needs to be replaced. Be sure to use a good grade of weatherproof cement on the seal to glue it to the drum, sometimes the glue is furnished with the seal.
Now is also a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear, or see if it is broken.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
I will include this link to go to to see a picture of how to route your belt incase the belt is broken
http://www.expertappliance.com/dryerbeltconfiguration.html
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots they will make a thumping type of noise like you described or if there is too much wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication.
I recommend that you remove and clean the drum rollers and the shafts they are mounted on.
Lubricate the shafts of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil, or a light lubricant like Vaseline.
Reassemble the dryer.
Plug back into your electrical receptical.
This should solve your noise problem.

Hi, Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time. Also dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it. Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

My dryer makes a scraping noise when the bowl

UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS

You may have two problems:
1...The felt seal around the door is faulty, broken, or out of place. This will cause the problem of zippers, buttons, etc. to get caught between the door and the drum
2...Drum rollers, this causes squeaks, and thump type of noises.
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication and the felt seal between the door and drum maybe faulty.
If you have a front loading machine,
Remove the electrical box that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, and felt seal.
Check your felt seal at this time to see if you can reinstall it or you may have to replace it.
Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise and the problem of getting clothes caught in between the door and drum.

Stackable dryer makes thumping noises -think its a broken belt

9 out of 10 times this is due to a bad roller. This is not something you can do yourself. A stack model is just too complicated.

You have to remove the top lid. Then remove the front panel. Then remove the belt and drum.
Your problem is a bad rear drum support assembly.
Remember to unplug the dryer.

Dryer comes on for a few minutes, makes horrible sound and goes off. now won't start at all. Frigidaire stackable

It could be the belt was partially broken, and as it came apart causing the dryer to no longer start,,, it made the noise your talking about. If the dryer still heats up, and you can hear the motor running,,, these would all be signs toward a broken belt.
