I just had the same problem. Also, I was getting a burning smell. The coil on the unit was blanketed with dust and dog hair. First, I cleaned it all out and tried it. It really didn't do much and I still had the burning smell. I then opened the back and recognized that the fan was not working. Turned out to be really dirty. Cleaned it and no it is working fine.

when the fan comes on so does the compressor, hold the fan with a rag and see which one is making the noise-mike

The problem is likely with one of the two fans. A new fan is available from Danby (1-800-263-2629). My noisy fan is the condensor fan located at the bottom rear of the device. After removing the cooler from under the cabinet, the source of the noise was obvious. You will need to tell them whether it is the upper fan or lower fan. Leave the cooler upright for a few hours before you plug it in so that you do not damage the condenser. Price for the fan from Danby is $20.15 including shipping. usually bad power supply, if the cooling fan isn't running either. These are horribly inefficient coolers that use a lot of power to accomplish little cooling. The power supplies are quite notorious to burn up.
If your supply is 12vdc output, you might be able to replace it with a supply from radio shack. dont use a battery charger though.

I believe the 6SBAR has an evaporator fan located behind the evaporator plate ( the cooling plate) inside the unit. They had some issues with the bearings in those fans failing and will sound like a small jet engine sometimes (high pitched whine). When you hear the noise, open the door and if the noise level changes (either gets louder or goes away) then it is the evaporator fan. If your noise is coming from the compressor area and does not change when you open the door, it is most likely the condenser fan blade is loose. The evaporator fan looks like a small computer cooling fan and is located near the bottom center of the evaporator plate (out of site). The factory sells a replacement kit with a much better fan and new power supply. You can reach them at 800-223-3900. Good-luck.
Koldfront makes a great dual zone cooler. I found you one that holds 18 bottles with
space for 6 bottles of white wine and 12 bottles of red.
