In my prevous post i said this was a universal remote. So universal remotes do not work with the wireless units?

  • xmccurry Aug 04, 2009

No they did not ever work together. To recap. I just bought my home 6 months ago. It had the wireless unit on the outside of the garage door. But a car remote did not come with the home. So i went to my local home depot and picked up one of those universal car remotes. They will not work together.

Most likely the wrong remote for your opener.

You must get the right remote for the model opener you have. Things have changed so much in the last few years. I would see if Home Depot would refund your money and then call a dealer in the yellow pages and get the correct remote.

I have an old powerlift wr827 garage door opener, but have lost the remote. Is there a universal opener with a 10-pin setting that I can purchase that will work with this?

This is an old opener, completely obsolete, but you could try buying a clicker universal remote at home depot, lowes, etc. follow the programing instructions for all of the 10 pin settings. sometimes different models will cross over. If it doesn't work which is likely you can always return it.

Is there a univeral remote for craftsman garage door openers?

Depends on the age of the opener. The model number is on the end of the opener closest to the door. Using it go to Sears parts and you can find out if the remote is still available.

If the instructions for programming your car remote has you using your original remote and the original remote has quit you will need to purchase a new Liftmaster remote.

Garage door opener remotes

If you go into the actual unit (on the ceiling) you will see the "code" of the opener. You then program the inside of the remote(s) (take them apart) to match what the actual opener is. Or you can look at the one that works and make the other(s) match that. It is a series of little toggles.

2 different openers stopped working by remote at the same time

Both the older genie and a newer chamberlain (3-4 yrs old) both run on 390Mhz frequency. sounds like you will have to change your receivers on both operators (365LM 315Mhz) then get 3 button remote so you can program both doors on one remote.
