Question about ASUS Eee PC 1000H Laptop

1 Answer

I have the exact same problem, but I had a power failure before.

My machine shut itself down when the battery ran out. then when I started it up instead of allowing me to put my password in the held down the power button. Now I get the "Safe Mode/last Known Good Configuration" menu. Whatever i select, Windows starts to load then a brief blue screen and immediatley reboots and goes back to the same menu (rather quickly).I don't see the bios menu and can't get into it either.Help please!!

thanks for your reply, Just one more question, does the eeepc1000h using the same windowsXP package as the desktops?

So my question is, would it be OK if I re-install the windows using any windowsxp cd? or do i need to use the exact type of windows xp for eeepc1000h? since I left the box and CDs overseas and the only cd I have is the normal windowsxp cd that i normally use for my desktop.

Ahhh, the infamous blue screen of death. not much you can really do but reinstall windows. if you have data you need you can remove the hard dive and attach it to another computer to copy the files if not take it to a pc shop so they can backup all of your data for you.

The camera keeps turning on and off by itself

When your camera shuts off by itself, it has detected an error inside. Could be hardware failure, but also a software problem. So no use of switching it on again. Please when it shuts down again, wait till no memory access light is burning or flashing. Then remove the battery. The best thing before reinserting the battery is to charge it first. But if you are sure the battery is fully charged, wait a few moment before you reinsert the battery. Then when you have put in the battery switch on the camera.
When you remove the battery for a few moments, the camera will have a "cold" start. So the program that makes your camera work, start from scratch. As long as the battery is in the camera, the program in the memory does not change. That is why you should the battery.
If your camera has a hardware failure it won't be solved when you remove and reinsert the battery. If the switching on and of occurs while zooming, it could be the lens mechanism has a problem with the gear or motor. If this happens, you should visit a service centre, or buy a new camera.
Then it could be the battery is charged, but not powerful enough to do all tasks. If the camera detects the voltage is under a certain level, the camera also shuts down. If every time the flash has to charge, or the zoom or AF motor needs to work, the camera shuts down, it could be the battery is on its end of life. But for that you should look on the display. Most cameras do have a battery level indicator.

I restored T5048, but now it shuts down and restarts non stop ?

Shuts down and restarts the boot process automatically continuously. Try turning it off, then hit the power button and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE Mode. Scroll down and see if you see an option to Cancel or Stop automatic restart on system failure. If you do click that and try rebooting your machine. It should tell you what exactly is the problem so you can read it without it rebooting all the time.

If it's that you need a CMOS battery you're in luck. Just turn the computer off, remove the case, sit the computer on it's side, get a flashlight and look inside for a battery about the size of a nickel. Normally the size of the battery is CR2032 which can be purchased at Walmart or you local grocery or drug store for $5.00. Just use a small flat head screw driver to remove the old battery and pop in a new one.

We have a 50 inch panasonic plasma hd television we bought in 2007. The tv was great until 2 days after the extended warranty ran out (with Circuit City who, of course, is no longer in business anyway). ...

The main power supply regulator board fault. It will be best to replace the power board as card basis rather than trying to repair it. Because, in most cases repair work on this board will be a failure, especially to Plasma displays. If you wish to get more details visit the site linked here. It will help you to an extent, I beleve. Faults of many popular brand sets are given.

Crafstman riding mower cutting off now won't start at all

The two most likely suspects for the symptom you describe are:
a) Ignition coil failure under high heat.
b) Decompression failure due to normal wear.

For a positive diagnosis try the following:

For scenario a)
Run the engine until it shuts itself down. As quickly as possible, check for spark using a spark tester (availabe at local auto parts store). If no spark when hot, allow to cool down and test again. If good spark when cold and no spark when hot, change the ignition coil.
Proper part number (assuming your machine is still all original) Briggs & Stratton part #492341.

For scenario b)
Run the engine until it shuts itself down. Try to restart but pay close attention to the speed of the spinning starter. Next, remove the spark plug and spin the engine over (WITH SPARK PLUG WIRE WELL OUT OF THE WAY!!) If the engine spins super fast and free you can discount the theory of a bad battery and you will need to adjust the valve lash.

Determine which is the case and reply to this post. I will gladly give a detailed explanation of the valve lash adjustment procedure in another post.

Hope this helps!

Shuts down autometically

Also, have you changed anything lately? and, Did this just start happening out of the blue, or did something happen to cause this, ie... power failure, kicked the plug out, ran the battery completely dead, overheated, etc...?

Screen is off

With the machine only being two weeks old, I would RUN not walk back to the store for an exchange. This is a hardware malfunction or failure, and there is no way that the machine should have done this in such a short amount of time. Just tell them that the machine froze, you shut it down by holding the power button down (there was no other way), and now it won't boot. Don't tell them that you left it until the battery ran out, a sudden shut down due to a dead battery can cause damage, and they may give you a warranty run around for that. If they give you any type of run around, demand a manager, then demand he/she give you an exchange. Don't take the run around and don't be afraid to get loud. Managers back down quick to a loud irate customer, they don't like other customers to think badly of their store. NOTE: If a machine ever freezes, and they will, you should shut it down by holding the power button down. It takes a few seconds, but the power button will override the system and shut the machine down. Most freeze ups are just due to software glitches and will start right back up, but in your case it's hardware, since the machine will not start up at all.

Problem with power

Since I don't know the exact circumstances of your power loss, here what I am guessing based on that you wrote.

This may be because the power does not come back cleanly after the power failure. Unfortunately, there is nothing much you can do about it. Since your router does work correctly after you manually reset it, the power supply seems to be fine.

If you have many power failures and find this situation to be annoying, you should look to buy a UPS (Uninterrupted power supply). This kind of devices have a battery that will ensure a clean power output when running, powering up and shutting down. It will protect you from interruptions and voltage fluctuation. You may also benefit from connecting you computer to a UPS because it will keep it running for a couple of minutes after a power failure to allow you to save your work and may also shut it down cleanly automaticaly.
