Should I be removing my floating dock from the water in the winter at my cottage? It is hinged to a piece that is fixed to the land and so there is some give.

There is over 18 inches of ice that forms in the winter months. The lake is medium sized and we are on a generally calm bay.

SOURCE: Ice is forming on the outlet holes on the face of my 4200 xlt

you should check to see if the fan at the back of the unit is operating, and you also need to check for dust build up, if the fan is working then clean and defrost the unit, try it again, make sure there is nothing blocking the airflow, if the motor is not running, replace the motor, hope that helps

SOURCE: Parts for Little Tikes Cottage

WIth little tikes items, you may not need the hardware to hold it all together. It all pretty much snaps together. If you do want to use hardware and secure it from wind/etc, you can use any type of common machine screw that you can screw into the plastic.  Let me know if you have any problems.

SOURCE: Winterize my Kenmore Elite Front Loading Washer

To winterize, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the washer.
2. Turn off the water supply.
3. Drain any residual water from the wash tub and drain lines. This can be accomplished in two different ways:

a. Method 1 - Open the lower kick panel directly below the door by removing the scews under the lower front edge. (HINT: Propping up the two front feet of the washer can help provide better access - a 2x4 works well for this). Remove the access cover on the drain pump and allow the water to drain out. You will need some towels to clean up the water. About a gallon or so will leak out.

Method 2 - Remove the drain hose from the standpipe at the wall and take a wet/dry shop vac and pull a vacuum on the line. This will pull and remaining water from the wash tub and drain lines, avoiding a messy clean up.

NOTE: Whatever method you try, its still a good idea to remove the access cover on the drain pump and check for any foreign objects that may be caught in the trap that can sour over long periods of inactivity.

4. Make sure the placement of the drain hose in the standpipe provides an air gap to prevent any possiblity of drain water from getting siphoned back into the washer. Only place the drain hose into the standpipe about 6 inches and leave an air gap at the top.

5. Check the door bellow (rubber seal) to ensure there are no foriegn objects lodged inside the rubber folds that can mildew or rot. Clean if necessary.

6. Leave the door open when not in use, so that the tub can air out. This will prevent mold and mildew from developing and keep the tub from smelling sour.

NOTE: It may be a good idea to run a clean cylce with nothing in the tub to sanitize before shutting the washer down for the season. Use the hottest setting you have and use a small amount of bleach.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Can I leave a dehumidifier in an unheated cottage for the winter? Where will my answer appear?

you can leave it turned off emptied in the unheated cottage. but i would not reccomend letting it run or stay with water in the tank. as water expand when it freezes. and will break the tank. also . dehumidifiers do nothing in freezing condition other than waste energy. so empty the tank and store it for the winter.

and your answer will appear right here :)

WE HAVE A FLOATING DOCK WITH BARRELS UNDER IT AND ONE BARREL HAS A HOLE IN IT AND NOW THE DOCK IS SINKING ON ONE CORNER. HOW CAN WE FIX IT WITHOUT TAKING THE DOCK OUT OF THE WATER.

I would get another barrel and fill it with water, that will allow it to sink, and be more maneuverable under water. Then you can switch it for the barrel with the hole in it, and then drain the water from the good one with a hose. Good luck fixing your dock!

Problem with ice maker on Whirlpool fridge

2 things, Usually when you disconnect the water the rubber seals stick to the plastic walls of the inlet valve housing when the water evaporates. This is the most common cause.

The other is the module linked below goes bad. If you remove the white cover on the front of the ice maker most times you will see a tab broken off of the larger gear in the center. A picture of the module is linked below.
