i have a zenith IQD61W20 61 inch crt television. It has three color guns. the unit powers on and the red light at the front of the flashes but no picture displays at all. regardless of what source i am on the screen doesnt light up at all. since this unit doesnt have a blub i am at a loss.

it has not been moved recently and has not been hit by anything.

Thanks. can you look at the two pictures i've attached? the first is the power supply from far away. the scond is close up on a gelly kind of blue thing that seems to be modled to the side of one of the capacitators. Does this this mean that capacitator is toast? is that supposed to be there?

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

In your case you have a rear projection TV based on CRTs technology.

This uses three CRTs to generate the image.

Parts that can be fault are the following.

PSU.6871VPM068A , usually blown capacitor, the capacitors may be replaced by a technician for less.

CRT pwbs The CRTs are powered with a small high voltage board for each tube, the boards are sometimes called Ballast Board. Each board is about $80, but they must be ordered.

CRT tubes 900-10052 , Blown CRT may occurr, in case one of the CRTs must be replaced. The green CRT in the link is not in stock, it must be ordered.

Convergence board or ICs. A common fail is caused by one of the convergence ICs blowing. In that case a chip like the one below must be replaced.
The replacement is a delicate soldering job. If the resistors at the base of the convergence ICs are faulty, this must be replaced.

Parts can be ordered here, many parts will not be in stock, in that case it is necessary to call the seller.
Phone (800) 638-3328 or (800) 432-8542

Also parts here Phone 1-866-925-PART (7278)

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Let me know if you need further help, and please do not forget to leave feedback after.

Many thanks.

G.

I cannot see very well, but that blue thing does not seem coming from the inside of the capacitor.

When capacitor blow they get bulged and sometimes they leak, from here that looks like a rubber protection in front of the component.

Be careful in there, capacitors can release big discharge even with power not connected.

I've read the manual:
http://www.retrevo.com/support/Zenith-IQD61W20-TVs-manual/id/387ci570/ t/2/

Here is what it says about no picture or no sound:

• Is the AC power plugged in?
• Check that your AC power outlet works. (Test it by plugging in something
else or try another plug.)
• Make sure your brightness and audio controls are set properly.
• Try another channel. The problem may be with the broadcast.

Or for a more advance isolation:

It might be acapacitor or capacitors failed in the power supply board of your TV. Thesecapacitors can be visually located because they are usually vented orBULGING. The only way to verify this is by taking the back cover offyour TV.

I hope I was able to help.

On powering up of the LT does it gives any beep sound. Does this problem started after any recent game playing or after any recent software installation. After starting your LT give it sufficient time to boot upto desktop level. When you assume it has come to that point press control plus alt plus delete. does that makes any difference.
