I have a Laptop, Dell Inspirion 9100. Recently it

I have a Laptop, Dell Inspirion 9100. Recently it has shut off automatically. After some testing, it seems to happen with the power cord. Either the AC cord is shorting or the Computer is shorting out. Once it shuts off, if you push the power button to start it again, the lights will come on, but the screen will not. Then the system lights go out again.

The power cord often has a broken wire right at the little plug that connects to the computer ..that will cause your symptoms .. also will prevent charging of the battery .. when people wiggle that plug around a lot they sometimes break a solder connection inside the computer (dont do that) .. .. you can gently push the wire into the connector to see if you can reestablish the connections between the broken wire .. if you do you will be able to boot the computer .. thats of course a temporary test .. but if that works then you need a new power adapter .. or if you can find someone that can solder on a new tip to that power adapter then thats what i usually do .. they do have to know what they are doing though .. if they switch the wires they can damage the computer ..and you have to have the correct tip.
if you could charge your batttery in someone elses inspirion 9100, then you will likely find your computer working again until the battery runs down ..

I would suggest testing your laptop with another adapter, first. Then you'll know whether to replace the adapter, which is priced around $50.

The most probable, as far as I know, the hard drive is dying. Please test the laptop with a healthy (or brand new) hard drive.

Could it be overheating, and automatically shutting-down, to avoid damage?
Shut it down.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Purchase a can of compressed air, and give your computer a "blow-job", shooting compressed air into every orifice, to remove all the dust that could be acting like a layer of "insulation", preventing your computer from cooling itself.

Dell inspirion 1000 laptop computer will not allow me to work in safe mode keeps shutting down after booting up

Hi,

It seems there is a heat related issue on your laptop. I would suggest to run first the diagnostic test, to check for hardware problem.

Try removing any external devices first (Ex. USB devices) then run some diagnostic test:

1. Turn on computer
2. Tap F12 continuously on the Dell logo screen
3. Select Diagnostics
4. Follow on screen instructions
4. Wait for the test results (approximately 10-15min.)

If all test passed no problems have been found, it means there is no problem with hardware/computer. The problem is now pointing out to be software problem. Re-installing windows will fix the problem. Hope this helps

No wireless network

I also have the Inspirion 9100. It is very finicky, try going thru the Setup wizard again and reset-up your wireless connection. If that doesn't do it...you might get a can of compressed air and use in the wireless card slot (if your using a wireless card), the bottom and on the keyboard. Surprisingly enough, I did the keyboard and the underside of the unit and it solved several minor lingering hardware problems.
