It sounds like you have a serious engine problem and I suggest you stop trying to run it as you may cause a lot more damage. Take it to a John Deere repairer who will be able to find out what is wrong with it.

SOURCE: change oil in riding lawn mower

look at the side of the engine down low. There should be a pipe plug screwed in that has a square head. Put a drain pan under the area and remove this plug and the oil will drain out. It's best if the engine is warm. You should get 1 1/2 quarts of oil out of it. Let it drain for about 5 minutes and then re-install the pipe plug. Add 1 1/2 quarts of 30W oil and then cut the grass !

SOURCE: my john deere rideing mower idles up and down at

The motor has a governor that controls its speed, and if one of the pivoting parts or linkages is sticking this would happen. Look for the throttle linkage on the engine carburetor (move your throttle up and down, watch what moves). The governor will be a second linkage attached to the throttle arm. Squirt some WD-40 on any rotating parts and make sure a foreign object isn't stuck in there. It could also be the part of the governor that's internal to the engine -- harder to get at, but not expensive to fix.

My lt 133 john deere mower has gas in oil and back fires. runs 5 min and stops.

It's going to need a carb kit to fix the problem. Make sure your gas cap is venting ok, because gas expands in the summer and can force gas to pass thru carburetor and flood the cylinder then passing down into the oil. Depending on the age of your mower, the carburetor may have a gas shutoff solenoid on the bottom and this may have malfunctioned. Another is a bad float or needle valve which a carburetor kit would fix. A needle kit with bowl gasket may be all it will need. Hope this will help.

John Deere LA110 riding mower has gas in the oil

Try stripping it down and having alook sounds like the piston ring has snapped and is pumping gas into the oil that would explain why the oil is coming out the the exhaust the black smoke is just oil burning up ou also might want to clean the carb alittle too.

La 135 won't start

If it was black smoke, then you're getting too much fuel in the system, which could be a lot of different things...air intake restriction, float in the carb, choke cable, etc.
