1-Remove the plastic handle with the four torx (t25 or t27)screws, pull on the handle to separate it from the engine. (I left the throttle attached and pushed the handle to the side to keep it out of the way)
2-Remove the spark plug and stuff several inches of clean nylon rope down the hole to lock the engine in place. Dont forget to leave plenty hanging out
3-Loosen the torx screw (same size as handle screws) from the center shaft of the drum and connector. The screw will not come out of shaft. Counter clockwise to loosen.
4-Remove the drum and connector by gently prying straight out. The drum is very thin and open on the back so make sure you only pry on the drum and not the clutches underneath it.
5-grab a stiff beverage and/or cigarette to releave the upcoming stress!
6-Ok, its really not that bad, just a bit tedious. The clutch plates are removed by taping them counter clockwise (lefty loosey). Dont second guess it, they really do come off counter clockwise! I used a chisel and a dead blow hammer to get them to break loose, then they just spin right off. Be sure to start with the top clutch, and try not to hit the plates too far out on the ends of the s arms, as they will bend quite easily. If you ruin the clutches, the part # is 00242, if your lucky you may find them at a local homelite/ryobi service center for around $8.00 each.
I'm sorry but this is about as far as I can help as I havent needed to replace the pull cord on this trimmer yet. I never could find any clear/definitive info on the clutch removal so thats what I was hoping to provide here. Good Luck!

Fuel mixture ratio for Ryobi SS300 weed eater

Are you sure about the model number? I see several 30CC engine string trimmers by Ryobi. Two are the Ryobi RY30040B (SS30) and a RY30544 (SS30).

For both of these models, mix a high quality 2-cycle engine oil at 2.6 oz. per gallon of gasoline to pour into the gas tank. This ratio is used in several other Ryobi string trimmer models. Many Ryobi product manuals are available here: https://www.ryobitools.com/power-tools/support/manuals . Most Ryobi gas powered and 40V battery-powered tools will have a model number that starts with RY. The 18 V battery powered models often start with a P.

I hope this helps. If you add a comment with the actual model number, I may be able to provide more information.

Ryobi ss30 (ry30544) pull string keeps jamming

I am having the same problem. I took it apart and the plastic cap piece for the pull string spool has a crack. This is the plastic piece that turns the engine when pulling. Because of the crack, the absorption spring under the cap slips out of its hole in the cap. This causes the pull string spool to jam after a strong pull that causes the crack to open up. Now I need to find a replacement part. Any ideas?
