Question about Kingston 2GB Secure Digital Memory Card

1 Answer

My Kingston 2GB SD Card keeps putting my pictures in one folder labeled 206CANON. I have a Canon camera...could the camera be the problem? The picture files are correct, but the card does not create new folders for each set of 100 pictures like it should.

So....what can I do? For example, right now I took four pictures with my camera. When I opened the card on Explorer, it put the pictures into 206CANON, even though the pics are IMG_3336 through IMG_3339. Whether I delete the folder or reformat the sd card, the next batch of pics I take always end up in a new 206CANON folder.

I thought I explained that? Let me see here ... for starters that is the character of the beast it is a default folder that cannon has issued the camera's programming to specify and not deviate from like Kodak canmeras have there own folder issued called Kodak

So on and so forth depending on the brand ....

You can change the name of the pictures but it will aways put a number after it in increments.

Am I making this easier for you to see? Nothing is wrong?

The IXUS 50 works with MMC and SD cards. Your new 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I have heard of this happening if the card was not formatted on your camera. Be sure you retrieve what you can from the card, then format it in your camera. It may solve your problem. The higher capacity SD mem chips (>2GB) sometimes don't display with some computers. I had to use a separate USB SD reader because the computer would not read the 4GB chip when I put it in the SD slot.

Canon SD1200 IS won't save pictures to the memory card.

This Canon uses an SD memory card (previous Canon used CF cards).
The SD memory card has a "slide switch" that locks the card.
Look at the SD memory card and move the switch back and forth, then switch it all the way to the UNLOCK position. Put back in the camera and format the card, then use it.

Since this is a 10Megapixel camera, use at least a 2GB SD memory card. A 2GB SD card will hold 700 pictures, or so, in the best setting.

Hope this helps!

Missing pictures

Lets check the SD card first.

Take out the SD card and put it in external card reader connected to computer.

Copy/transfer all the photos from the SD card to computer.

goto My Computer and right-click the 'Removable Disk' (the SD card drive) and click Properties.
click Tools and click Error checking - Check now button
select the option 'automatically fix file-system errors' and click Start button.
if any errors was found and fixed, you can also Format the SD card. And your SD card should not drop photos again.

Now put SD card back in the camera.

Now take 20 test photos and check if something is missing.
if not take 20 more test photos and check if something is missing.
if all is ok then you can delete all test photos and start taking normal photos.

Strange characters in file name

Dear Adriana,

Try downloading your pictures through a USB2 card reader. I have found that some cards are not 100% compatible - a bit like computer memory: Unless the brand is tested and recommended by the manufacturer, you are never really sure until you try it out both in the camera and through computer interfaces. I strongly recommend Kingston Ram. A 2GB SD card is around $18 AUS and has a lifetime warrantee. If it is not compatible, you will get your money back.
