Warning when i power on

Everytime I power on my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P200, I get a message to "Turn the power on and off and on again." When i do this, I get the same message again. I tried the reset button but all it did was reset the time and date.

I bought the camera from USA and after taken this to India, it worked for 2 days. After this, when I switch the camera mode, it ask me to turn off/on. But no luck after doing this. Same even after reset. I sent this Camera to UK and there is found to be working. Now also, it works randomly.

Any clues? I sent the camera to repair center in India and they told me that, lens unit had to be replaced and cost of it almost equal to a new model camera. This is quite disappointing...

I take off the battery, I empty the battery then I recharge then I reset and nothing is working. my zoom still out even if I turn off my camera. what can I do? is it telling me that my camera is broken? thanks for your advice.

Thanks Coldcut for the info. I agree that prices are comming down, and I am looking. However, I used this camera for work purposes, and I bought additional equipment for it, i.e.: telephoto zoom lens, housing for zoom lens, macro lens, filters, etc.

The internals to the lens assembly is at fault and only a micro repair can fix it, sometimes it the pins that allows the lens to move are off track. sometimes its the focal motor within the lens. all are motor gear driven and stick randomly.
not worth fixin due to the falling prices.

How to reset sony cyber shot dsc-p200

On page 14 of the user manual for this camera (click here for manual), it shows that there is a small reset button hidden under the battery compartment door.
On page 74 of the user manual, it states:

"Press the RESET button using a pointed object, then turn on the power (reset).

All the settings including date and time are cleared."

This should reset your camera. If you have any additional question, please reply back and I'll be happy to assist.

Thank you for using FixYa and Happy New Year

My sony cybershot dsc-p200 lense is stuck.

Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 worked great then the lens stuck in the open position.
Read on this site some one suggested gently manipulating the lens and tapping it then turning it on. It worked!!
