Tornado can opener gets stuck and sounds like gears stripping

Unlees you have had a loss of gear oil this is unusual.
I would first remove the linkage on the gearbox and see i i could manually move the shifter. Obviously, if i could, then the fault is in the shift rods or lever.
If the gear shift on the bix is jammed, the box will gave to come out for strip down and inspect or get another gearbox.

Sounds as if the 'Blend door actuator' function is not working. it is stuck on the cold and the gear that turns the door to open the gate for the hot air is stripped inside.

Probably the same issue I am having with the A/C actuator. Move your selector from dash vents to floor vents, then to defrost and see if the sound stops. Mine is stuck on either floor or defrost right now, won't direct air out through the dash vents. The gears in the actuator motors strip and the thumping will get worse until the gear is finally worn down and won't work at all.

sounds like the governor gear is stripped ( Its plastic). The governor has weights and springs that spin. When the weights spinning overcome the spring tension,as you excellerate it opens a valve telling the trans to shift. ....I had the same problem on my Chevy van...... this is a very cheap fix at a honest mechanic shop .

check the sifter cable it might have gotten slack, stretched or stripped. you may need to tighten it or replace it.

The motor might be bound up or a release for the top is not opening. Hopefully the drive gears for the top are not stripped out.

I have the same car and just fixed the exact same problem you just described.
It is NOT a vacuum problem. The blend door is electronically controlled my a small motor under the dash, to the right of the steering column. The clicking is coming from a stripped gear in that small motor unit.
On my Taurus X, what caused the motor to fail was the blend doors (which open and close depending on what your vent setting is on) getting stuck. That caused the motor gears to strip out and make a clicking sound every time the automatic climate control tried to move the blend doors.
The fix required a substantial amount of the dashboard to be taken apart. The blend doors were re adjusted and the motor control unit replaced.
I had the Ford dealership do the repair and it cost me $450. (Ouch!)
To make sure that's your problem, you can follow the clicking sound. You'll have to get on your back and look under the dash on the drivers side. Have somebody press the defrost button to cause the clicking sound. Once you find the small unit you can actually feel the gears slipping when it makes the clicking sound. It's really tight under there though and you'll probably need a flashlight.

There is a servo motor that runs the temp and a seperate one runs the mode doors. Start the vehicle,change the temp setting and listen for a popping sound coming from under dash. This
noise is the stripped gearing in the bad servo.REPLACE .
